Travel Blog Milestones

Since 2002 travelblog.org has come a long long way! Here are some more details.
B Posts: 4,996
Today travelblog.org hosted it's 200,000th blog entry. Here it is: Beer and Birthday Cake
Some time very soon we will be hosting 1.5 million travel photos.
And some time after this the 50,000th blogger account will be opened.
Travelblog quietly passed it's 5th birthday, April 5th 2002 was the date of the first post... some drivel about my last day of work before what I thought would be a one year travel experience.
Travelblog.org is the second largest travel community on the internet (source alexa.com) - only virtual tourist has more activity. Also according to alexa travelblog.org is the 3,700th (ish) most popular site in Australia, 6,400th (ish) most popular in the UK - and up there in many other countries.
According to quancast.com - travelblog.org is the 10,735th most visited site globally. Quancast.com report.
Despite some very active competition from well funded corporations - this position is being maintained.
I'd like to thank everyone who has joined, shared their travel experiences, stayed with the site through some tough times (only a few weeks ago!) - and sent messages of support that kept me going through all night work sessions.
Travelblog is much greater than the sum of it's parts...

Congratulations Ali!
Quite appropriate that the 200,000th blog entry was a celebration :-) Reply to this

I searched many travel related blog sites before joining here. Not only was the Travelblog layout easy to use, but there was one sentence in the terms and conditions that was the decisive reason - and it is simply this "You maintain copyright of all your photos and text." The majority of other free travel related blog sites reserve the right to use your photos and text if they so wish for whatever purpose - so congratulations to you Ali for not implementing this practice. congrats!!!
I love this site. I originally was looking for a journal site for my friends and family. Basically travelblog won hands down for
clear crisp layout with non obtrusive advertising (some sites put advertising in the middle of your entry several times! it is amazing how ugly some sites are)
being free (many you had to pay to join, or if you wanted to add photos you paid for that
awesome community feeling
and again for being so damn good looking
well done

Ali,
Where are we now in terms of numbers of blogs published?
Should there be a celebration of milestone blogs? Or are we already doing that on the facebook page and I have not noticed?

We put items such as milestones for number of photos, blogs or bloggers on Facebook. We passed photo number 7 million last year and that was posted on Facebook, and we will reach 8 million this year, so that will get posted too.

Shane,
Do we know how many bloggers have 5 or more recommendations and could be front page bloggers?

Sorry, I don't know the answer to that question; I suspect it would number in the low hundreds. Reply to this
