Does anyone know if it is possible to get a chinese visa in Katmandu?

We are traveling to Kathmandu in a couple of weeks and would like to continue on to Tibet. Has anyone tried to get a chinese visa there. Any info would be helpful. We would like to do it without a travel agency to save a bit of money. Reply to this

As I know,if you want to get a chinese visa from Kathmandu to Tibet first, you should look for a travel agency to join in a tour group, only travel agengcy can arrange this visa and it is valid about 21 days and when you arrive Lhasa, you can leave your goup and travel freely.
But I am not sure if you go from Kathmandu to other parts of China, like Chengdu,is the chinese visa the same. Reply to this
