Going se asia and india for 6 months in September with my gfriend. Has anyopne taken the malaria pill Doxycyline for that kind of time. Did it make you burn easier in the sun as i hear it can? Looking at value Doxycycline is a clear winner. Surely a bit of extra sun cream stops the burning? Any advice helpfull as im not willing to get if im going to burn every day. Thanks
p.s Any good suggestions of where to purchase cheapley. Reply to this

Also, does anyone have information on where or how easy it is to get Malorone in Asia? Which countries are the easiest and/or cheapest? I would like to get it for an extended stay in India, but will be in China, Vietnam, and Thailand before I get there. Reply to this

I took Doxy for 3 months in Tanzania and had no problems with burning and I'm pretty fair. The problem with Doxy is that it is not recommended to be taken for more than 4 months since it is an antibiotic. Right now I'm on Lariam while in Vietnam. Lariam is only taken once a week but it is much more expensive per pill (I think almost $10/pill) and everyone I know besides me who has taken it has had horrible dreams. However, I've been told that the bad dreams go away after your body adjusts. Lariam is also not good for people with a history of depression. However, I believe that it can be taken for longer periods of time (probably 6 months) and it is effective in areas where there are malaria strains resistant to other malaria drugs. Besides Doxy and Lariam there are other drugs available, but I do not have personal experience with them. Your best bet is to talk to a doctor and do your own research on the web. Lariam is considered the best, but it's expensive and risky because of the side effects.

Thanks Missy. Thats just what i wanted to hear. My girlfriend has fair skin too so i thought this may be a problem.Plus i like the fact that Doxy can stop other illnesses and infections. Larium is out of the equasion because of a brush with depresion in the past and malarone is far to expensive.(plus im sure its only recommended you take for 3 months) Its looking like Doxy then! Trouble is im going for 6 months but hopefully ill live! Cheers Reply to this
