HELP!! Where are the absolute must see/do places between Chiang Mai and Jakarta?!

Hi, I've just been offered work in Indonesia which totally changes my travelling plans. So now, I have approximately 4-5 weeks to get from Chiang Mai to Jakarta, including a my 30th birthday in the middle.
As this may be the last time I get to travel and explore for a while, where should I make sure I dont miss? I dont mind what route I take or how many countries I go to inbetween, but it would be nice to be somewhere pretty special for my 30th!

Any ideas would be very gratefully appreciated!
