Just got back from Cambodia...some things to consider.

* If you are travelling with someone, you'll save lots of money on accom b/c you'll split the cost of the room in a guesthouse.
* Some of the tourist sites are way overpriced - but totally worth it. (ie. Angkor Wat was $20US/day + whatever you pay your tuk tuk driver)
* Overall the country is expensive b/c they use the US$ more than the riel, the local currency. Food, accom, transport was much more expensive than elsewhere in SEA.
* Loads of begging - sometimes its seriously just hard to resist the funny, cute kids that entertain you for an hour and then want to sell you postcards or a bracelet for a dollar......

Hope you have a great trip...

500 pounds is more than enough! yes it is a little more expensive due to the $us, but still cheap as hell. the only major tourist cost is the temples. museums etc, are $1 entry, or donations of any amount. forget the tuc tuc, we rode bikes every day, they cost $1-2 for the entire day (plus you have the benefit of far more freedom). accommodation is reasonable, you can get a decent enough, air con, tv, hot water room for around $10-15 (but you could probably find cheaper if your happy to rough it more).
important too...dont give the kids money on the street, they dont see any of it! buy them food off the street vendors instead! a mango will cost you like 10 pence, trust me, the kids are hungry, theyll appreciate it more! Reply to this
