Does anyone know what the weather will be like in Thailand in August?
Our other option is Bali, are the travel warnings to be take seriously? Is it safe to travel there?? Reply to this

Hi. Travel in Thailand in August will be hot and, well
it is the wet season. That doesn't mean it rains all of the time.
Usually rain occurs in short sharp downpours and then it fines up.

So do you think travel to Thailand in August is a good idea or not so much? Also, I heard Phi Phi Island was hit by the tsunami, has it been rebuilt? Reply to this

It's been rebuilt and is as beautiful as ever.
Normally the rain here is short sharp showers
aslthough we've had more than our fair share
over the last couple of weeks. I would advise
you not to let the wet season put you off.
You'll find that most of the time, the weather is fine.
Prices are cheaper and the hordes of tourists have usually
decreased to a trickle.

Where are you planning to stay in Thailand and for how long? If you are planning on staying for a bit of time then I really wouldnt worry about the rain, like was said earlier - it doesn't rain all the time. The seas however can be rough so if you plan on doing alot of island hopping- keep this in mind. Reply to this

Thank you for the info.
We were planning of going for just two weeks and I am not sure where yet but probably for convenience Phuket and Phi Phi Island and Bangkok
as well. Is that too much for 12days? I know Phuket is really touristy but maybe in August it wont be so bad.

Phuket is touristy - but it's also a very big island so it has everything. You'll find Phi Phi much more touristy then Phuket - as the tourism coverst the entire island. Most of the cheesy tourist areas in Phuket are confined to certain areas. If you rent a motorbike and drive around you'll find quieter beaches. Phuket town is also quite a nice place to wander around. Lots of interesting chinese temples, cool little shops and interesting architecture. You can do Bangkok, Phuket and Phi Phi all in 2 weeks. I'd reccommend only a few days in Bangkok, get a few sights in and then head south. Phi Phi also doesnt require alot of time - its very small. You can also continue by boat from Phi Phi to Railey Beach (also Krabi province) if you want to do some rock climbing. Actually there are a few rock climbing schools in Phi Phi now I believe. Have fun! Reply to this

Thailand in August is going to be hot and sweaty but it certainly won't rain all the time. You'll also get the benefit of going during a period where it's not so busy. There are parts of Phuket that are away from the crowds and the whole region is really accessible. Don't be put off by the rainy season, I'm in Babngkok now and the rainy season has meant to have arrived early but I can't see any sign of it. For accommodation you could do alot worse than check out apartments in Phuket but there are many hotels and cheaper alternatives everywhere.

I agree with SMThailand- the weather is different on the east and west sides of thailand so check the weather out first. 12 days ia quick trip but you can definitely do it. I had 17 and managed to see Bangkok (we only spent a day there), Chiang Mai, phuket (day trip to phi phi), koh Phangan, and Koh Tao. Better beaches on the Phuket side, but Koh Tao was my favorite place because of its laidback atmosphere. Yes it was a bit hectic and ton of flying. If I did it again I would go slower. I just spent 10 days in Bali- I did not feel like I was in danger at all! At some of the big clubs in Kuta they were even checking locals for identification before going in. Having been to both, I could not tell you which to choose- I loved them both. Both have their very touristy areas, but both have remote areas to get away from it all. It just depends on what you are looking for! If you like to dive, its good in both countries! I think the food was better in Thailand. Happy planning! Reply to this

hi, all,

I am planning a one week trip to Phi Phi island with my girlfriend around July 21, 2008, however, my friend in Singapore told me that July is the monsoon reason and it could be dangerous in Phi Phi lsland or Phuket, and she suggested me to go to Bali instead.

Can anyone kindly tell me whether I should still go to Phi Phi lsland or I should change my plan and go to Bali instead. I've actually already made pretty much all the detail plan for Phi Phi lsland, but i do worry that the rainstorms and safety issues.

activities I am planning to do in Phi Phi include mainly snorkeling diving, scuba diving, etc

many thx

Hi,
I don't know about the weather in Bali but July is the monsoon season in Thailand, although this doesn't mean it will rain all the time. It's very hard to predict. The monsoon season is very doable, it doesn't usually rain constantly (but there will be the odd few days that it will - and then it may not rain again for weeks, or only say an hour a day - which is usually welcomed). I know this probably doesn't help with your decision - especially since you only have 1 week. Regarding safety, taking the ferry to Phi Phi will be a bit more rough then the calmer times of the year, but Phi Phi really doesn't have much of a low season, people are heading there year round in droves, so it's not that bad. As far as Phuket, there are no safety issues for getting there as you would fly in or drive in (it's connected to the main land by bridge) but the beaches can be rough at this time and some are dangerous. It's the time to go if you surf. I spent 10 years in Thailand and I am going also in July, I like this time of year as it's quieter (but Phuket still has it's areas of nightlife going strong, and quiet local areas to relax, and certainly Phi Phi will be busy if you are looking to party). If you want to wait for the perfect weather - December is the month to go - not too hot, sunny every day nearly guaranteed, not too hot in the evening and calm beaches. But it's busy. Reply to this
