Hi all,

Looking for some advice as we are planning to travel to the US in May 2018 and we want to make the most of our time and money...

We traveling from Melbourne Australia and at this stage planning to spend 7 nights in NYC, 4 in LV, 5 in LA and then 5 in Cancun.

We would also like to do some driving possibly into LV (like the typical clique).

We will have a few spare days and would love some suggestions on where else we could go???

Also any 'must see' places/attractions we should add to our lists...

Thanks in advance! Reply to this

Welcome to Travelblog!
The US is so large and varied, so there is no single "must see" list. It depends entirely on your budget, time,. and interests. What do you like to see? Reading blogs from various areas can also produce many ideas.

The most important advice is to limit a trip to particular regions, which you have already done. Keep in mind that flying from NYC to LA takes a full day. Depending on your time available, it may be worth switching NYC for San Francisco to get more time in California.

Driving in the US is incredibly fun. Plan on renting a vehicle in whatever city is your departure point from the country, because one-way rates are expensive. If you have ever fantasized about driving a convertible, and your budget can handle it, California is the perfect place to rent one.

For a few extra days, I would personally plan some rural areas, to see the full variety the country can offer. Obvious spots are the Mojave Desert and Death Valley. Check the temperature for the latter, as it can become life threatening in summer. Joshua Tree National Park east of LA is also a possibility.

The trip sounds amazing. Looking forward to the blogs! Reply to this
