Is it safe to travel through Southern Thailand?

We are looking at catching the train from Kuala Lumpur into Southern Thailand, heading to Phuket and would like to know if other travels think this area is safe at the moment considering the ongoing violence due to insurgency.

Hellow all, just my 2cents. I made it safely through the border from Butterworth to Padang Besar, from there to Haatyai by van, then to Bangkok by train. All southern Thais I encountered have said the violence is isolated. No issue as Peter states ;-) Reply to this

Hi we travelled down from Narathiwat, Thailand, over the border to Kota Baru last July by bus. We saw no trouble, there were one or two armed police-manned road blocks but they took a casual look in the bus and waved us on.
hope this helps. Reply to this
