I'm going to be in Silicon Valley at the end of Sept and would like recommendations for restaurants and hotels.

I think I want to stay in either Palo Alto or Saratoga. Not sure about a car. I have looked at several area hotels, including Garden Court Jupiter Hotel. Also the Inn at Saratoga. I love ethnic food and would love recommendations for Indian food. Reply to this

It kind of depends on where you want to explore in Silicon Valley. I would recommend staying in Palo Alto or nearby areas if you want to explore all the way up to SF or down to San Jose/Saratoga. If you can find an affordable place to stay, there is great transportation from using the Caltrain and once you get to the small centers of Palo Alto or Menlo Park, things tend to be pretty walkable.

We didn't stay in the area long enough for me to remember a lot of restaurant names, but I remember I really enjoyed a lot of the Greek food as well -- my favorite restaurant was Kokkari Estiatorio (all the way out in San Francisco and pricy, but I would highly recommend it). There are quite a few smaller restaurants in the Palo Alto area but they can get crowded quickly (especially in the evening), so you may want to check for reservations. Further out in neighboring cities or in Saratoga/San Jose area, it is a lot easier to get to walk into a restaurant and have a bite. Also, San Jose is one of the best places for Vietnamese food.

As for driving a car, maybe if you end up in Saratoga that would be a good idea in order to get to restaurants, etc. I wouldn't recommend it as much in Palo Alto because the roads and signs are designed quite different from most US cities and can lead to some frustration.

Have fun! Reply to this
