Hello travellers,
I will arrive around 10.00PM in Mumbai for the first time in India. Some people suggested me to wait up to 5AM at the airport ( I am a female). What would you recommend me? Do you know a cheap hotel I could go for this night (if I don't spend/waste it at the airport). Do you think I need to book ahead. Many thanks for your help. Reply to this

You definitely need to book ahead especially for a cheap hotel. I travelled alone and booked through the hotel service at the airport. I think I paid about $75 US for a room in the middle of nowhere. I think that was the cheapest I could find. The others were looking upwards of $100US...
You can wait up but you can't wait around in the secured area of the airport and have to go outside where you'll be bombarded by hotel/taxi services anyways. There isn't really a nice safe waiting area that you can doze off in. From what I remember, there's just a row of chairs opposite all of the hotel/taxi stands.
I would personally book ahead and get a pre-ordered taxi that will take you to your hotel (or book with your hotel to send you a taxi. you might have to pay more for this service but make sure the taxi driver has your name it and check to make sure he has business cards from that hotel... or some other assurance that he's from the right hotel and he won't take you to an copycat hotel). Feeling jetlagged and waiting in an airport for 7 hours seems more sketchy than taking a registered taxi. Reply to this

Thanks Laura, for all your information. i'll get a pre-paid taxi then.
I got an information from an Indian about a hotel (secure and cheap in Grand Road, he told me that the area is a bit "unsecure" at 400 rs), I'll see, it is only for one night...
thanks and enjoy your travelsssssssssss. Reply to this

Hi,
By the time you come out of Airport( Chattrapathi Shivaji International Airport) it may be about 11 -11.30pm. I will suggest you select your hotel first, may be near Khar. Grant road is not secure place to travel in night! Hotel arranged pick up is best solution as informed by Laura above. You can try with "Hotel Highway Residency" which is very near to Airport and ask for airport pick up.
Happy holidays.
