I am 55 stable buisness man, married 4 grown kids. I was asked at the border recently to produce a crinimal record for a $100.00 theft fine 37 years ago. I didnt even remember it. Then I was asked to apply for a US Waiver. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS!!!

Anyone else out the have this happen???

Hello Robyboy and welcome to Travelblog!

Relying on a record from 37 years ago is not something I have heard from before. Which nation's passport do you travel with? Reply to this

Canadian passport. I amreally pissed about it. Missed Joe Cocker and Huey Lewis and the News. Never mind the embarrassment. It was very excessive in my opinion. Reply to this

Thanks for the welcome. I have been looking for a place to vent but also get some kind of reason for this. I do not mind doing all this and I have stamped papers saying it is in motion. To deny entry is garbage. Reply to this

I have no idea why suddenly they would deny entry. Hopefully in this or the other forum you have posted someone can answer. I haven't tried to enter the US for a long time, so don't have personal experience myself.

I remember seeing Huey Lewis and the News in the 1980s here in Australia. Never seen Joe Cocker though. Reply to this

To add, I can understand how frustrating this would be - at least if they allow you to follow a process, then that is fine - but denial at the border is really a pain. Reply to this

Wow i am impressed that they had this record. I worked on a couple of US policing systems for a few years and they really didnt keep that sort of information at a national level. Even the terrorist info they kept after sept 11 that they check photos/fingerprints against isnt at that level. Was your theft for $100 worth of uranium or something bombish lol?!?

But i can see how that would be pretty damn annoying. I know from australia we have to fill in the waive thing online at least 24 hours before so is that what theyve asked you to do? my goodness, i'm sure we used ot travel between canada/us with just our drivers licenses! How very frustrating...hope you clear it up!

Wish it was. $100.00 fine for a stolen car battery. Tough to pay twice. Read the US has illegals learning how to flt planes again but I cannot go to a concert. Reply to this

I can't imagine they had the records available. I am completely baffled by this story.

I would contact an attorney and find out what you need to do to prevent this from having in the future.

I have applied for a US Visa. It takes around 5 months. They say this goes away after that but also you must keep applying every so often and it could be yearly. I am at the point sometimes thinking KMA. I have been to Vegas 4 times, Pheonix the same, San Diego twice,Alaska twice, Michigan,Seattle twice, Oregon twice, Buffalo 4 times. I know there is so much more but I cannot help being pissed off. The arrogance that the three or four border officers displayed is hard to erase. I wish there was somewhere that they could be held over the barrell.

Thank you for your note. Reply to this

I would feel the same way you are feeling. Just remember that these 3 or 4 are not the norm. ( thank goodness).

There is a lot more for you to see and you will be glad you made the effort. Reply to this
