My family will be spending 3 months in Washington DC, I'm looking to see literally every inch of the state, does anyone live there? What are the miss and don't miss attractions? I'm into art, culture, architecture and food😊 Reply to this

Hm, Washington DC itself is a city which comprises the District of Columbia - did you mean Washington State? But more on DC, it's only about 60 square miles, and encompasses most of the known governmental and federal buildings - like the White House, Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument. There are also lots of museums such as the Smithsonian. Interesting architecture is everywhere.

Three months will be plenty of time to see the attractions of the area - in fact if this is your first time to the area, you might want to consider taking a train or driving elsewhere in the region for short getaways.

DC has a huge amount of things to do such as the smithsonian museums and zoo, political and hostorical monuments and exhibits and some great cafe/restraraunt strips. I would imagine most would be described in any hotel lobby or tourism place as i think it probably has the most amount of things like that to do than any other city 😊

I think as Stephanie and Andras have mentioned it is very well located to a lot of other stuff as well...you can drive to Gettysburg for a weekend (about 1.5hrs) and follow the civil war tour, you can go to Phillidelphia (about 1.5hrs) and see the liberty bell, declaration of indepedance, state art museum, phillie cheese steaks and heaps more. Another great weekend from there would be to Baltimore (about 1.5hrs too) where there is a great 'old town' with cafes, pubs and little art galleries. Virginia just around DC also has some great landscapes and little villages like Herndon that are worth going to for an afternoon.

The subway is very easy to use in DC and the city is broken into quarters with lots of streets named multiple times across each quarter making it a bit confusing to the novice to get around...and there was a quarter we were told not to go too as there were gangs etc...sorry i cant quite remember but perhaps look into that.

Hope you have a great time and it is definitly a city worth visiting and will keep you occupied on weekends for quite a while 😊
