How do I get an Indian visa from overseas

Hi,

I am looking for information as to how to get an Indian visa from overseas. I start my travels in April this year and will not make it to India until March of next. For this reason I cannot get an Indian visa from home, unless I send my passport home half way round which I feel could be a little too risky! I have heard about getting visas while in South East Asia but I am not entirely sure if this is possible? Could anyone shed any light as to how I could, if possible, do this?

Thanks,

Hello John, there are plenty of Indian embassies or consulates in Asia where you can obtain an Indian visa. Sometimes embassies will only let you apply if you are a citizen of the country where the embassy is located, but most times they will not. If you can show evidence that you have left you home country such a long time ago that any visa you had obtained in your home country would be expired, then you shouldn't have a problem.

Contact the Indian embassy in your home country before you leave, and ask them for the contact information of their embassies in some of the countries you are travelling. Usually there is an Indian government website that should link to them all. A good way to find an embassy on the web is to type in the name of the country embassy you are after and then the city you are located in, for example: "India Embassy Kuala Lumpur" and also try it with "India Consulate Kuala Lumpur"..

Note, if you search for the "India Embassy Malaysia" you end up getting results for the Malaysian Embassy located in India as well. Reply to this
