How does this work?

I know that this has probably been asked before quite a few times but I could not find the answer... Do blog awards automatically appear on your blog or do you have to submit for them?
Thanks! Sorry if this is the millionth time someone has asked this... Reply to this

Hello, and thanks for the question, which you will be interested to know, is not often asked. There are different ways awards are provided.

Photo of the Week and Blogger of the Week - anyone can nominate them, but they are chosen by the Moderators and Administrators

Hall of Fame - slightly more complex, needs to meet a certain criteria (2 year member and 30 blogs) and then a nomination period occurs. Previously one needed to be nominated by three bloggers, but not sure what will occur this year.

Forum Poster/Blog Poster/Photo Uploader/Commenter - these are reached when achieving a certain number of forum posts, blogs, photos or comments. These are automatic, as the script needs to run to award them. They used to be run infrequently, but I believe that they are now either automatic and should appear within a much shorter time frame than before.

Hope this answers your question; if you have any more queries, please ask!

Thank you for the reply! I have been wondering about the blog awards for some time and being that I have just reached one with my last blog (the Photo 1 award for over 100 photos) I thought now would be the time to ask about it. I wasn't sure if it just pops up on the blog or if there was something I had to do. I guess just wait patiently 😊. I really like the idea of different awards... I think it's really neat, especially now that I understand how they work!! Reply to this

Glad I could be of assistance! If you haven't received the award in a week, please post here, as I'll then enquire with administrators as to when the script will be run again.

Hello,
I am quite new here and just wondering if these awards are still in use? I found on the site you have to reach certain amount of photos, blogs etc to get award but I have thousands of photos and more than 200 blogs, but still no award.
How often the script is running? Or maybe there are some additional criteria i didn't meet yet?
Could you please advise?
Thank you in advance:-) Reply to this

I asked the question about the criteria for the awards system a couple of years ago. You'll find the response with all the details at: https://www.travelblog.org/Topics/34662-1.html

231 blogs and 5,500+ photos would normally qualify for Level 1 Blogger and Level 2 Photography awards. However, I note that the vast majority of your entries are not considered 'blogs' because they are simply a collection of photos with just 3 or 4 words. I seem to recall that to be a 'blog', an entry must have at least 500 words or something. Anyhow, my guess is that's the reason yours haven't counted towards the awards. Whether the photo albums would qualify you for the Photography award I don't know - I expect that might be at TravelBlog's discretion.

May I suggest that you post your question on the Support forum, with information about how many of your entries have more than just a few words in them, to elicit a response from one of the Moderators.

Thank you very much for your answer.

I signed up here in January 2015 and love the idea of this site. As you know it's very difficult to update old blogs especially when you have hard copy written in the diary. I have updated the photos because that was very easy to do as i have everything in folders in order. That's the reason why it looks more like photoblog, however i am trying to be up to date with new trips.

I am not very much into awards however would be nice if the information could be easy to find. You have a different awards on the site but you don't really know what you have to do to get them. You have to dig really hard to find some information. I couldn't find anything about how many words had to be written to make sure your blog will be qualified as a 'blog'.

In theory you have award for blog poster when you have 100 blogs or photo award if you post 100 photos. Not sure how it works because i have seen blogs with just a few photos above 100 and they do have awards and as you know i have a few thousands and i haven't received it yet.

Would be nice if someone could write clear information about the awards and the rules. It could save so much time for every user especially new users like myself. It's really annoying when you cannot find information you looking for.
Otherwise the site is brilliant:-)

As another member, I agree that there need to be clear statements about what constitutes a blog and the criteria used in the awards system.

I've posted the question on the TravelBlog Support forum to be picked up by one of the Moderators. Watch this space! Reply to this

It's easy to update old blogs. From your Control Panel go to the Blogs pull down menu. Then click on List Entries, which will then show you all your entries. For the entry you wish to edit, click on Text in the left hand column. You can then add and edit the text for that blog. You can pick any of the other options such as Photo to edit also. Thank you Bob for your time:-)
I know how to update the blogs and the photos.
The problem is my blogs are not counted towards awards. So my question is: do you know how many words I have to write to make sure the blog will be counted towards awards?

Also, for the amount of photos I have I should receive photography award too.

Is there problem with my blogs or the script has not been run for a long time?

In response to: Msg #195540 You might send a message to Ali or Auspicous or Jo Trouble who write the code for and administer this site. This is a problem that needs to be fixed. Reply to this

Bob and Katka:

As you know, I posted this as a new TravelBlog Support topic on 26 February but, as at today (4 March), there hasn't been a response.

I think it's the definition of what constitutes 'a blog' that's complicating things because it's a basic question of principle that requires a decision from head honchos. Is a collection of photos - i.e. a 'photoblog' - a 'TravelBlog blog'?

Once that's determined, there will need to be some further work to disseminate the information to members and, if necessary, to ensure that scripts working the awards system are run regularly or updated.

I think we should close the topic here in the 'Blog Forum' and concentrate on the 'TravelBlog Support' one because that's where the moderators should be picking up on this sort of question. You'll find the Support topic at: https://www.travelblog.org/Topics/37220-1.html Reply to this
