hi, wow youve got a huge list there! ummm....well from memory the must see's are the forbidden city which is in the main city and was probably at least 3 or 4 hours worth of a visit. Tiananemen Square and the temple of heaven we saw on a tour within a few hours and also in the main part of the city. The great wall of china was a few hours drive then you'll probably spend a few hours walking along and reading about the history etc.
I went to china maybe 5 years ago now so memory is a bit hazy but those are thing things that i remember the most... plus tasting 'real' chinese food and going to an acrobatics performance.
hope you have a fantstic time

Hello Ashraf and welcome to Travelblog!

That is a lot to see!

Re the Forbidden City, I spent a whole day there, really loved it. Make sure you visit the Clock and Watches Gallery (it costs extra if I remember rightly). There a lots of places in the Forbidden City to explore at the sides of the complex - and these are great for getting away from the crowds.

Please add the Lama Temple, it is an impressive and colourful complex, complete with a huge 16 metre sandalwood statue of Maitreya Buddha.

If you are heading to the Bird's Nest, try to get into the adjacent Water Cube as well - it is the best sporting venue I've ever been in.

Finally, if you want the best Great Wall experience, avoid the Badaling section. I think just about everyone I've spoken to who has visited has complained that it was overrun with stalls and tourists. Instead, go a bit further and visit Mutianyu - I was there at the height of the Olympics and it was not crowded at all. Take the cable car up, explore left, and then retrace your steps and head right and take the enjoyable toboggan ride back to the bottom of the hill.

That is a HUGE list! We just got back from Beijing last month - couple of pieces of advice - go to Temple of Heaven on a weekend. Lots of people hang out at the park playing instruments, singing, and playing hackysack. Very cool.

If you haven't booked a place to stay yet, stay at 365 Inn in Quianmen (sp) area, just south of Tiananmen Square. Excellent location, great staff etc.

Do yourself a favor - DO NOT GO TO BADALING! It will only take a day before you tire of the crowds in China - you will ruin the Wall for yourself. Leo's Hostel offers a "secret wall" tour which is amazing. You should most certainly go on this tour - you will not regret it. It claims you have to be physically fit - but you don't. You will have the whole wall to yourself!

Jingshan Park - definitely go here! You can easily skip the summer palace - Behlai park is cooler.

Have fun and do your best to avoid the umbrellas! Reply to this
