Manuel Antonio or Osa Penninsula???

Hi there,

I'm spending 2 weeks in Costa Rica in July and am trying to see what I can without having to rush too much... unfortunately I have to choose between Manuel Antonio and Corcovado N.P - any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Is it worth making the long journey down to the Osa Penninsula, or will Manuel Antiono suffice in terms of a fantastic jungle/wildlife experience?

Many thanks

While I have not been to Corcovado since 1993 I have been to Manual Antonio as recently as last year. Doing the 3 day hike through Corcovado (last day cross a bending river more than 10 times) is much more of a jungle/wildlife experience. That being said, Manual Antonio is great for beach and seeing wildlife, but much more "tame" experience. Unless you fly, I think you will need at least 4-5 days to do Corcovado, where you need much less time to do Manuel Antonio, so depends on how much other thingsyou want to see during your 2 weeks. (highly recommend river rafting down Pacuare) Reply to this

Great, thanks so much for the info Sofia!

I have actually decided to fly down to Corcovado so that I have enough time to do it some justice... I would really like to do the 3 day hike there - can you suggest a tour company to do this through? I have tried to contact Escondido Trex but I think they might have closed down as their website is not operational and they are not replying to my emails...

Thanks again

Sorry Julie, it was a long time ago and I did not go with a tour, just did the hike with 2 others after arriving by bus staying at the campsites. Have a great time! Reply to this

You can contact Ballardo Diaz at <snip> excellent nature guide in Osa.

Have no experience with a tour company in Corcovado, but we arranged our (sadly just a 1-day)trip through our guesthouse. We stayed in the Mirador Lodge but I imagine every guesthouse there will have something on offer, as the National Park is what everyone goes there for!

It was one of the must-sees of my trip in 2005, and glad I didn't settle for 'just' Manuel Antonio (gorgeous as that was too)

Have a good trip! Reply to this
