India Solo?

I'm male and 23 year old from Ireland and I want to go to India. Back in Feb I booked my flights to Austrlia. My original plan was to spend 6 days in Tokyo, however due to the awful events there I have changed my mind.

I'm male and 23 year old from Ireland and I want to go to India. Back in Feb I booked my flights to Austrlia. My original plan was to spend 6 days in Tokyo, however due to the awful events there I have changed my mind.
I now want to visit India. My friends either can't or won't go travelling with me so I'm going solo. My plan was to go at the start of May to Delhi. Then overland to Mumbai to go to Agra, Udaipur etc, along the way. Then leave Mumbai around 3 weeks later. From Mumbai fly with AirAsia to Kuala Lumpur, go overland to Singapore. Then Singapore to Darwin with JetStar.
Basically what I want to know is India safe? Has anybody ever traveled India on their own? I'll intend to stay in hostels, and mabey meet up with other travellers.
I'm from Ireland, and when I tell people I'm travelling alone, they think I'm mad. In Ireland the idea of travelling alone isn't as popular as it is in England, Germany or Sweden.

Any advice will be welcomed.

Dan

Hi Dan,

Great plan;-) You will love India for sure.

I spent 6 months in India in 2005/06 and came back last year and never felt any danger at all. Obviously you have to watch for the typical stuff like keeping money safe etc but except for that is is absolutly fine. People are very friendly and generally helpful so I found it more relaxing than North Africa for instance. I am sure you will meet a lot of people over there so you will not be traveling alone anyway;-)

Enjoy your travelling ;-)

Don't worry about solo travelling in India. It is safe to travel alone in India in my past experience. You just go to any hostels in India, you will meet lots of travellers and they will tell you their stories/experiences, you will enjoy a lot. One thing you should be aware of is hygienic problem as you said you will be there in May; You are easily getting ill in summer time as the weather is really hot and a lot of mosquitoes. Just check with your doctor, he or she will give you good advices. There are also a lot of travel touts in Delhi and many tourist cities. Just check on-line to all different travel website, like travelblog and lonely planet. You would know how to deal with it.

Anyway, wish you have a nice trip in India. You will definite enjoy it.

Hey India is very safe for traveling. You can easily adjust with Indian peoples. Plan your journey and first select the place which you want to go. Then decide where you are going to take a halt or you can say stay. You get good hotels for stay. I suggest you stay at <snip> Udaipur Hotels they really good one. I have my personal experience.

I travelled India alone, and I am a woman. Just pay attention, and you will be fine. Make sure to keep yourself healthy by only drinking bottled beverages, only swim in seawater! There aren't as many hostels as hotels there. I found it better to go look at a hotel room before you reserve as you then know what it looks like, and you can negotiate a price. It is supposed to be really hot there right now. Something I did on my trip, but hadn't planned awas go North to McLeod Gange & Manali because it is cooler there. It was one of my favorite places in the end! Reply to this

Hi,

Since you're considering in going to India, it might not be a bad idea to have a go at an authentic Indian spa experience 😊 Kerala is stunning this time of year albeit very hot, and <snip> would be a perfect spot to try.

Hey Dan,

I am an Indian girl and in India its not popular scene to see girls traveling alone but still I do. My job as well as many personal experiences have shown that its not as scary as we think. But yes, there are many kinds of people in India. You just need to be careful and plan everything in advance. I suggest you visit Leh-Ladakh also while in India.

I've met solo female travellers during my visits to India, and they were having a wonderful time. As with any travel destination, just use common sense regarding your safety, as the same basic rules apply in Australia, Egypt, Kenya, India and many other nations across the world.

Some cities might require extra caution, but just ask the local people at the hotel/hostels you stay at and listen to their advice. Reply to this

Hey Dan,

Why travel in India in summer?

May - June will be scorching in North India and i don't advise at all. The places you have chosen - Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur - will be around 42-45 degrees Celsius and very hot. I would recommend you to plan India after September when the weather is pleasant. Don't hesitate to ping me if you need help. Reply to this

Dan, Solo traveling in India is very safe, india is a country where you can adjust your self easily and there are lots of guides available like Abbas A Zaidi, RanthamboreJeepSafari and may be other are in India. One more thing you must travel with Government approved or Trusted travel agent like above i suggested.... Reply to this
