Traveling to China at the end of March-beginning of April.

HI all,
I am traveling to China at the end of March. I will spend two days in Beijing. From there I will fly to HOng Kong and spend 8 days there. Is it worth it to fly over to Vietnam for two days, since I will be in the area. what I am esentially wondering is, if 8 days is too long in Hong Kong and should I split my trip up with another adventure? Also, is it easier to get there by train or by flying. Any information would be most helpful. Thanks. Reply to this

While most people would say no..I will say...go for it if its not going to cost you a fortune.

Last year we went to Vietnam for LUNCH lol..a grand total of 16 hours in Saigon that ended up being hilarious due to going out to Cu Chi to see my partner get wedged in the tunnels, a tropical ulcer and a series of other strange events.

Do i regret being in Vietnam for 16 hours and eating snails and smuggled yoghurt? no. Travel is what you make it. Two x 45 minute flights in one day and a couple of hours at airports and another couple of hours transfer between hotels and airports is going to eat into your time to do things though. Train times could make three days difficult so I would suggest flying.

I lived in HK many years ago, its not that big a place to see unless you are into shopping and nightclubbing - are there specific things you want to do in HK? You may find 4 or 5 days there enough for you. See which country you fall in love with and explore it in depth on your next trip.

I like to think its never a waste of time and money travelling anywhere....theres no law that says you cannot fly halfway around the world for pancakes.

In two days in Vietnam you could go to Halong Bay which is spectacular, If you're flying to Ho Chi Minh City (rather than Hanoi) you can go see Cu Chi, fire off an AK47 and straddle an old tank screaming Yeehaw... so is it worth it? Yes in my opinion...

It would take a while to do it by train so I'm not sure you'll have enough time. Depending on what passport you're travelling on you'll also need a double entry Chinese visa as once you enter HK you've apparently left China, then you'll also need a visa for Vietnam.

Personally 8 days in HK is too long IMO, but when we were there we were on a budget, and it's hideously expensive compared to the rest of Asia. If that's what you've got, then I'm sure you'll find something to fill your days, it's a pretty exciting city.
