Should we stay in Bankok overnight or fly straight to Krabi

We will be arriving in Bangkok at 7am on 23rd December and will then be flying down to Krabi.

Our dilema is that we have a choice of 2 flights to Krabi. Either we wait nearly 4 hours at the airport and get the 10.45am flight arriving Krabi around midday , or can we get a taxi into Bangkok and have time to do some sightseeing and be back at the airport (new one, 13 kms away) for 3.15pm to get the 5.15 pm flight. In this case we won't get to Krabi untill around 7pm. Does anyone more familiar with the area think we will get accomodation ok at that time of night? keep in mind it will be nearly Christmas eve by then.

We then intend to get the first ferry over to Phi Phi next day (24th ) and hopefully find accomodation there. An update of times for the ferry would help here.

It is our first time in Thailand so any help would be greatly appreciated. We're not too fussy about the one night in Krabi but would like somewhere 'fairly ok' on Phi Phi

Thanks for any advice Sheila Reply to this

Ive been to BKK a few times now and feel that no thailand, especially a first one, is complete without checking out bkk...though the real experience of it doesnt kick off til night time. However, getting in and leaving at the time you do, you will more than likely run into traffic problems. Would hate for you to miss that flight to Krabi...though still real cheap (airasia.com) if you do. If I were in your shoes id head straight to krabi. As for accomodation: I'll be in Phi Phi and Krabi at the same time as you this christmas. Hotels are filling up fast so id recommend to book in advance if possible. For ferries: http://www.phiphi.phuket.com/schedule.htm ------- see you there, your gonna love it. Reply to this

Hiya

Ive just come back from thailand after travelling around for a month on vacation ( backpacking ) i'd definately reckomend Bangkok , before i went back in october , people were telling me that i wouldn't like Bangkok .......turns out to be one of my favourite places in thailand and i ended up spending on total about a week in the capital . You have to be prepared to open your mind to new ways of doing things and the driving out there is definately better than any theme park ride you will have been on but all in all jump ion a meter taxi and don't pay no more than 250 baht plus the toll road fees which are 75 baht . theres great things to see and do in Bangkok both at night and through the day but i suppose its a place where you either love it or hate it but please don't bypass the capital .

I can reccomend accomodation in the form of a guest house where i spent both my stays in bangkok its called the Asha guest house and they charge 450 baht for an air con room ( they are basic but clean ) and as you can see very cheap the place even has a pool and great food in the bar area . The only problem is that its not in the centre of bangkok its near the victory monument near the sky train station saphan Kwai but it only takes 5 minutes on the sky train or 5 minutes in a taxi for about 50 baht . and the bonus is that on a night when you want some peace and quiet this place is toned down . So have a great time and stay in Bangkok for the night or longer if possible .

P.s you will love Krabi i reccomend getting a water taxi around to Railey beach even stay there for a couple of nights if you can .

Thanks for all your replies. We've taken your advice and booked the early flight straight out of Bkk to Krabi and also booked accom. for the first couple of nights on Phi Phi. After that we'll take our chances as we really want to do some backpacking around several places. We have one night booked in Bkk, 2 weeks later on the way home so hopefully things will have quietened down, traffic wise, by then. We will have a whole day and a night to see and experience some of sights. You always need a reason to return anyway!!
Thanks again Sheila Reply to this
