Hello everyone,

I post here once every other blue moon. I have an interview in London in early January. I can get a total of 18 days off work (not including weekends). I went there last August for two weeks and had the time of my life. This time I want to have a better time than last. I was very unorganized, and it was my first ever trip on my own. I want to make this one a more organized, planned out, yet with room for spontaneity.

I want to stay in England for a couple of weeks. But unlike last time, I also want to venture outside of London. I want to go North, East, West, and South of London. Ideally, I was thinking that it would be fun to rent a car and just drive all over. I also love soccer, so I will definitely be watching a lot of matches there.

So I want some help getting organized and planning for this trip. I want to 1) Have fun whether it’s spontaneous or planned fun, 2) Watch lots of football, 3) Drive a Ferrari around Silverstone track, 4) Northeast, Midlands, East Midlands, etc. 5) Do all the things off my list that I did not get to last time I was there. I will probably have more questions and details to work out. But for now, what I need from people here is advice on what my next steps should be. Airfare? Tickets? Bookings? Etc.

Lastly, I am probably going to go alone. While that is fun and at times pleasant, there are moments where you wish someone was with you. I’m okay at making friends, but not great. Don’t get me wrong, I love having my autonomy and doing whatever I want to do. But it’s not too bad to turn your head to the person next to you and say “wow, that was.. Beautiful” or something like that. How can I find someone to travel with? Or should I just travel on my own? Or should I just get married? :\\

Thanks,
Bonoz

Hi Bonoz, England does have a lot to offer for travellers, but the weather has been pretty horrible recently, and with the snow the whole country comes to a standstill so hopefully you'll still make it! I guess I would start with the things you need to work around - so get your flights/insurance etc first, and then book football games and silverstone. Then work out a rough itinerary around that.

If you stay in youth hostels you will meet people wanting to see things in the area - so you can then decide whether you want to join them, or do your own thing. Reply to this

Hi Bonoz. Last October, I stopped over in the south of England on my way home from Malta. I rented a place through Sykes Cottages; www.sykescottages.co.uk for a week in Rye, East Sussex. It served as a great base for touring what's called the 1066 Country. This is near where the Battle of Hastings took place in 1066. The village/town of Rye is great. Nothing has changed since the 12/13th century, except for some heating inside. All the streets are cobbles and the pubs are cozy and friendly, especially the Ypres Castle Inn and the Mermaid Inn.

As Laandal says. England has been hit with some really bad weather, so you should be a good driver in snow if you rent a car.

Good luck,

love england...there is certainly loads to do and the weather is for sure bad right now. I would plan football first cuz it can be hard or even crazy depending on which team you want to catch up.

For cities...well bath, oxford, manchester for football and liverpool should be on your go list. For the rest it really depend on what are your targets...

As laadal says, you should check up flights insurance, football and the silverstone first. Reply to this
