What makes a great travel partner?

hmm, I've had some good travel buddies but then I've had ones where you wish you had taken the trip alone. Actually many times I find myself wishing I was alone. When you are alone you can do everything at your pace. Traveling alone also brings about a feeling of true self awareness and discovery. You feel free because you know the road is yours to choose.
But then I regress. Sometimes its good to be with a group of people. Sometimes you feel more comfortable leaving the decisions in someone elses hands with more experience. I've been in situations where I was traveling with people that spoke the language. This makes things easier and more relaxed.
I don't know, I guess for me its someone who wants to travel at the same pace and for the same reasons. I mean, I like to stay and observe, take some photos and relax when I find a nice moment in the trip. If your to rushed to go onto to the next big thing you miss the little things. Reply to this

I agree 100% with Michael. I like a travel buddy that won't flip out on me. I have a friend who I kept asking to come to Paris with me (she'd never been out of the country before) and I just knew we'd have a great time. Well, we were having lunch together (in U.S.) and she lost her debit card. I admit, this is a big deal, but you can just call the bank they can put a stop on charges and re-issue a new card, etc. That problem can be remedied in about five minutes. But she proceeded to have a complete melt down to the point of near tears and panic and left the restaurant mad. Needless to say, I learned a lot from observing this situation and we won't be going to Paris together. Great friend but not a great travel buddy. Reply to this

Ok, this is too good to not tell. The last time I was in Rome I brought a friend who had never traveled before. The hotel was out of hot water one morning and she declares, "I'm not going anywhere today if I can't get a hot shower first!" Really? We're in Rome! Another great friend; not a great travel buddy...
