Hello! Does the Xiamen ferry terminal have a website? or is there anyone who knows if there is a ferry from Xiamen that goes to Taiwan?
The flights are ridiculously expensive and i am searching an alternative...
Reply to this I found this article on the web about what you mention:
For Taiwan residents, a money-saving ferry ride to the mainland
The Man in Seat 61 website, which I refer to frequently, also has information. If you scroll towards the bottom of the page, you will see it there:
Man in Seat 61 - Taiwan
This means you need to take a ferry from Fuzhou in China to the outlying island of Matsu in Taiwan. From here you can take either another ferry to Keelung or an internal plane flight to Taipei. Keelung is a short train ride from Taipei, so either option is good if you want to travel to the capital.
Reply to this hi shane! thanks for the reply. do you have any idea if the ferry at matsu goes anywhere else? i am looking at the south actually. flights are really expensive! even from Hong Kong...
Reply to this I am unsure of more information than this. Flights can be expensive from Hong Kong. Try different airlines - Cathay Pacific is quite expensive (though very good), and there are two Taiwan based airlines - Eva Air and China Airlines (not to be confused the Air China on the mainland). China Airlines does not have the best safety record.
One of the reasons for Hong Kong flights being expensive is due to the airport taxes. See if you can get to Guangzhou, it is cheaper to fly from there. I know that that some locals use this method to get the best prices. You could try to get a train up the coast so that you are closer to Fuzhou.
If money is everything, and it doesn't matter how you get there, you might be able to get a cheap flight with Air Asia back to Bangkok, and then fly with them towards Taiwan - but you are going far out of your way. I haven't checked the prices, so it may not be cost effective, but it is a possible option.
Reply to this There are COSCO Stars between Xiamen and Taiwan. And the cheapest ferry ticket is at around RMB 700.
Reply to this There are ferries to Taiwan from Xiamen. But you need to get some certificate to go through the custom. Take
to enjoy the islands in Taiwan sea. Reply to this i've taken the ferry from xiamen to taiwan! =) easy, fuss free and cheap! no certificate was required for me, it's just like any normal custom routine.
