I want to know which country to do my internship in
14 years ago, September 10th 2009 No: 1 Msg: #85854
Hello,

I've applied for a teaching internship in China with i-to-i, although I;ve never been to China before.

They given me four choices, none of which I've really heard of before. Liaoning, Dalian, Shenyang and Huangzhou.

Which of them is least likely to make me run back to England with culture shock like a baby?!

Thanks Reply to this

Actually, you just provided 3 cities. Because Liaoning is a province, not a city. Both Dalian and Shenyang are in Liaoning Province. Shenyang is the capital city of Liaoning Province, Dalian is a coastal city in Liaoning Province. Hangzhou is the capitcal city of Zhejiang Province.
My suggestion is Dalian or Hangzhou.
Dalian's weather is very beautiful, especially in summer. But sometimes, the wind is strong in winter. But it's OK. If you like to swim in the sea(I like that), it's good to stay in Dalian.
Shenyang is not as good as Dalian.
Hangzhou is famous for it's beautiful west lake and historic sites. And also it's close to Shanghai. But it's very humid in summer, just like Shanghai. There are also a lot of tourist destinations around Hangzhou, such as QianDaoHu(thousand-island lake), Huang Shan(yellow montain), Nanjing City, Suzhou city.....

Actually You can wiki these cities.

I stayed in Hangzhou for 4 years and stayed in Dalian for 5.5 years. My wife is in Shenyang. So I know these 3 cities well.
Enjoy China.

Sure, you only have 3 choices. Liaoning is a province as hehe said.

Agree with hehe. Dalian and Hangzhou is better.

I prefer Dalian. Reply to this

Dalian is a beautiful city, ive lived there for half year.

Many russian people work there, coz its port city in north of China.

i dont konw if you will like there or not.for me,well....no offence..but i dont really enjoy living there.

if here is a chance to come south of China,Jiangsu provice will be a great choice.

Nanjing/Suzhou/Wuxi will be good for you.

Many forenigers from the world here,The European Union Chamber of Commerce is here too.

you will have more opportunities here.

Anyway,welcome to China.

Just a point: he said HUANGZHOU not HANGZHOU. Pretty big difference if it wasn't a type. Huangzhou is a district of Huanggang in Hubei. Although it seems strange to list this small city among Dalian and Shenyang it's worth noting and getting the correct city name so you don't go there expecting Hangzhou and getting stuck somewhere else.

Dalian is a beautiful city and there is boat loads of foreigners there. If you don't want to jump right into China and instead would rather slowly acclimate yourself Dalian would be my suggestion. Shenyang is also ok and Hangzhou is real beautiful so I think you're in good shape regardless of where you go. Only thing that could screw you over is if they are lying to you and it's not really in those cities or something.

You're going to have some culture shock regardless of where you go. Enjoy the new experience, don't be afraid of it. Reply to this
