How to get on it?
14 years ago, September 4th 2009 No: 1 Msg: #85266
Hey, your latest blog made it to the Front Page of TravelBlog, Barnaby. 😊 That will certainly help you get more votes for the competition. Front Page blogs are viewed many more times, than the ones that arent on the Front Page and the viewers who like them, will likely look on your profile page. So, good luck with the competition! All your future blogs of over 600 words will now be on the Front Page.

Mell- Is that how it works? Once you get picked anything after that that you write over 600 words will make the front page? Huh, I did not know that. Well done Barnaby Reply to this

When you have enough recommends and you are a member for a certain amount of time, and some other factors you become a Front Page blogger and your future blogs go on the Front Page as long as they are at least 600 words long.

PS. If you want to get your blogs on the Front Page, be sure to participate in the forum discussions. It makes you more visible, so people are more likely to recommend you. With so many blogs and bloggers on TravelBlog, many dont get recommends because they just dont interact enough with the other members.

You could also leave comments on the blogs you like. That can also prompt other members to look at your blogs. It is the members who choose the Front Page bloggers, by giving their recommend to bloggers they like.

Woohoo! I'm on the front page! Now that is cunning, Mell, because people are now going to gas away like double-glazing salesmen in the general forum. And then they're going to write 601-word blogs! Ingenious..

I like the analogy of my disinterest in rock stars with that of women and gay men, too. That's my sort of humour. It's funny that you were in Munich at the same time as me😊

They are welcome to. The more the better as far as we are concerned.

They would still need to say something interesting enough, to make people look at their blog and recommend them..... So still a challange! And only those with BLOGGER status can recommend others.......

It's funny that you were in Munich at the same time as me😊

I live in Munich, so I am likely to be here at the same time as most people are.

Ooh, Munich is one of my favourite towns in Europe. Not just for Augustiner beer, though!

On this site, is it possible to see where people are from, or live? For all anybody knows, I could be Swedish yet living in Morocco..

And did you set up this site, Mell? Or is that a stupid question?!

Hi Barnaby,

Sometimes people indicate their current location or place of origin on their profile page.

The site was founded by Ali

Well, it looks good because Bavaria has the money to keep its towns in good condition and preserve old buildings. But, this part of Germany is very conservative. I wish I was living in the north again, but the jobs are in the south and earning money causes travel to be possible. 😊

No, it is not possilble to tell where people are from, unless they disclose it. Information people give out about themselves is completely optional.

And did you set up this site, Mell? Or is that a stupid question?!

Yes, as Jo stated, this site was set up by Ali. Me and Jo who posted Msg 8 are moderators, along with some others.

Another Front Page tip for the ambitious, who are reading this: Another reason Barnaby got blogs on the Front Page so soon is that he created a discussion thread that we could put on the Front Page. Moderators choose the discussion threads which go on the Front Page. We choose ones that we hope will be of interest to a lot of members. If you create such a thread, it also gives you more chance of getting recommended, because more members read the Front Page threads than the others.

what is the cutoff for # of recommendations you need? Is it 3 or 6...or just 1? Reply to this

Thanks Jo. If nobody knows where I live, the chances of the house being ransacked while I'm on tour are slim. I joke...

And hats off to Ali. I'm glad he finally saw a whale shark after 700 dives! This site is a great idea; I'm only sorry it's taken me so long to discover and start posting..

Mell, when you say that Bavaria is conservative, I assume you don't mean the lack of pole-dancing clubs? Reply to this

There is an algorithm that works it out. Only Ali knows what it is, but Barnaby has 3 recommendations and those got him onto the Front Page.

Strangely, despite being conservative, there seem to be lots of strip shows. They even have strippers at one of the Heavy Metal clubs I go to. I dont know why they bother, because even the men there dont seem to pay much attention to them. They should confine them to strip bars, in my opinion.

Mell, I would like to ask actually how many members are there in Travel Blog? I tried to find that but couldn't see anywhere mentioning it? One of my blogs about Vietnamese lunar new year had reached 990 views after the first week I published. I think, it was linked to some other websites that's why it got so many views. Often the blogs on the front page have 50-500 views. Thanks. Reply to this

The newest member on TravelBlog at the moment is number 135,301. The number of members is growing very rapidly. Before last Christmas there were less than 90,000 as far as I remember.

One of my blogs about Vietnamese lunar new year had reached 990 views after the first week I published.

Contgratulations! That was good going. 😊

My highest hit Front Page blog got around 400 hits while on the Front Page.

Thanks Mell, but some bloggers have 0 entries. They registered just to read and comment on the entries of other bloggers. Many people are not members of Travel Blog, but they read this page very often then subscribe their emails to read the new entries of bloggers. What I like about Travel Blog is that you allow unlimited photos. I also like the format and the right to control the comments before they appear under the entries. Reply to this

I have 40 email addresses in my subscriber list and only 5 of them are my friends. I don't know the other people and never talk with them, but they always read my new entries. As you said, once our entries get posted onto the front page, there will be more views. However, not every entry gets many views. I think a shocking or attractive title would get more attentions. Also, some regular and long time bloggers like Aspiringnomad, Jabe, Ali etc., have a great number of fans. Reply to this

Yeah, the early members had it easy. Their blogs were not just one of thousands and thousands. As well as that, since they have already gained their popularity they get even more fans, while newer members are yet to get any recommends at all.

We ask people to help us find these good but unknown members by recommending them, when they see one to give them a chance to get on the Front Page. Also, to nominate any good ones you see for the Unknown Blogger of the week as described in Msg 14. Reply to this
