Hi all,
I'm spending two weeks in Bolivia this June, one week while a friend is visiting me and one week on my own. I figure that with my friend, we'll start in La Paz and then go to salar de uyuni, and then if there's time, is there anything else nearby that we should see?
Then for the other week on my own, any general tips on what to see/do in Bolivia? (I know Lake Titicaca is amazing, although I'll be in Arequipa for a month before Bolivia, and I thought I could see it as a weekend trip from there before going to Bolivia.)
Thanks!!
Reply to this This is quite a quick trip but it will be possible to do the standard bakpaker adventures. In La Paz there is the "Death Road" bike ride and "San Pedro Prison" tours ,read book Marching Powder before you go.A 3 day tour from La Paz to the Palmas is very popular, you travel into the deep jungle and catch n eat Paranas ,you'll find Anacondas and camp in the jungle. As you said the Uyuni Salt Lakes are worth a few days and the mining tours ,sorry have a mind blank on name of town but it is very popular tour so won't be hard to find.
If you are getting bus from Araquipa-La Paz ,you may aswell do Lake Titicaca on the way ,instead of going all the way there and back.
Enjoy your adventure.Peru/Bolivia are such a happy ,friendly part of the world
Reply to this I'll second that, just reading Marching Powder at the moment and it's awesome. Is it still possible to do tours of San Pedro?
Reply to this I was there last April and the tours where going then. They have become such a tourist drawcard that I can't see them stopping.
Reply to this I am currently in Argentina and the word from other travelers around here is that the prison tours are not on right now because of some sort of journalist who went into the prison and riots. We cannot get a full story, but I think that currently the prison is not happening.
