Thanks for the replies everyone.
What about other types of jobs? I'm not against doing the teaching thing but what other options might be around?
Reply to this The obvious things that you do in any tourist areas really - bar work, promotions, dive instruction.
Bear in mind that you will be working illegally as you cannot work on tourist visas.
Reply to this Is is possible to get work visas for those countries? As far as I know it is possible for Thailand, but costs something.
Reply to this Hi BnK,
Welcome to TravelBlog.
What is your current occupation/work history? Are you in the Working Holiday Visa age category (under 30?) - not sure though if WHV is an option in SE Asia.
Reply to this Why don't try online tutoring? It facilitates you to work with flexible hours and from anywhere.
Reply to this Hi Jo
We're in the IT field so probably not a lot of help on the road (?) We're both mid 20s also so I guess we're firmly in the working visa bracket...
At this (early) stage we'd like to spend the most time around India/China/surrounds rather than SE asia, though we also plan to travel through the area. Working would ideally just be for weeks/months to top up bank balances as much as possible before moving on to somewhere new- not sure if I'm asking too much or what really!

Maybe there is something in that area you can do. I chatted with a guy on the internet who sells Google add space and somebody my boyfriend knows does some kind of software development. Both live in Thailand, but work for companies that are located someplace else. All interaction with the companies happens over the internet as far as I know.
Reply to this Yes, if you are looking at IT work, an important consideration would obviously be which areas have reliable internet connections.
Reply to this Hi,
If you work on computer...for someone based in another country, it's not an issue.
But getting work on the ground for few weeks will be very difficult. Even teaching...as you employers want people who are ready to commit.
In India, forget about it, in China, very dangerous game on a tourist visa, but can be an option if you apply for a business visa...but this will be more expensive...and the crisis has also hit here.
In SE Asia, you have more chance...easier to go around the rules...they don't have any type of "youth visa" thought. But same thig, your employer will want a time commitment for you...to be true, some arrive for 2 weeks...an stay forever...so it's not that bad...
Have fun!
Peter....13 years living in Asia and counting...
