Hi, I only have a week in Thailand, I really want to explore the islands down south. Is it too ambitious to want to cover both Koh Samui and Koh Phi Phi? How does one travel from one island to the other? How far apart are they?

Reply to this Very easy to do both islands in one week. You can start on either side. We flew in Krabi and went to Ao Nang and then took a boat to Phi Phi. Krabi is about 15 minutes from Ao Nang by songthaew. The boat ride to Phi Phi was under 2 hrs if I remember correctly.
From Krabi we booked a bus/ferry ticket for Samui. We left around 8:00 in the morning and headed to Surat Thani (actually just up the road from there to the pier). We were on the ferry and at Samui's pier by 18:00. You then have to get a ride to your guest house.
A whole day of travel.
Reply to this If your only there for the week you may want to consider the time of year and where the rainy season is, they are not the same on the the sides of thailand so the weather can differ.
