Would like anyones opinion on best regions of Mexico to do on a time limit of 2.5 weeks.
I´ve only got a short time to spend in Mexico (2.5 weeks) and I have to be in Guatemala on the 4th of Feb. I have a couple of ideas one is do just north of Mexico and surrounds, head to guadalajara (I have an aunty there) going to Queretaro and Guanajuato then i could fly from Guadalajara to Guatemala. I would love to get to the South West (Oaxaca, and Chiapas) but don´t think I will have enough time. Please recommend favourite areas of Mexico. I like a bit of history, culture and beaches (but will probably get that later anyway), am not very interested in westernised joints like Cancun.
Also what airlines are best and or cheapest?
Cheers!

Reply to this I've been to Guanajuato and the Yucatan, so I can tell you a little about those areas.
Guanajuato is smallish, but has lots of traffic. It's quite hilly for walking (lots of up and down) but has wonderful restaurants (some near the Jardin and some on Plaza De La Paz) a coffee shop or two (Spanglish) and some nice night clubs (La Dama de las Camelias). Of course that was all in 2004. I can recommend Academie Falcon as a language school.
In the Yucatan, my favorite places are Isla Mujeres (for the beach at el Norte) Valladolid, a nice small town with easy access for both Chichen Itza and Ek Balam pyramid (which you can climb, unlike Chichen) and Merida, a thorougly lovely (but largish) city. In Merida, catch the Wed. evening concerts in Parque Santa Lucia, take a side trip out to Uxmal if you like pyramides.
I'm off to Veracruz at the end of this month, wish me luck!
Bien Viaje,

PS Airlines, depends which coast you are flying from. I use Continental.
Reply to this Oh man there are so many good places, but i have to say that one of my favourites cities is Mazatlan, i mean, have you ever imagined waking up every morning to warm ocean breeze and the sound of the surf crashing on the beach? OMG it is the best down there. Specially right now cuz there are so many good projects going on, my family just bought a condo at this new tower called Torrenza, it will be the tallest building in the whole pacific with the craziest most amazing panoramic beach front view of the sea. They´re building it right now but i can´t wait to get there and enjoy the whole thing.
Reply to this Last time i checked Mazatlan was a westernized beach joint, a few hours north of puerto vallarta there is lots of small mexican fishing towns, very cheap and very unwestren, skip sayulita and rincon de guayabitos if you want a true mexican experience.
Reply to this Great thanks everyone for all you help! You've got me very excited!
