Hi all,

Need some advises. My first time India, sorry for bombarding many questions hoping for answers.

I'm arriving in Delhi in the evening (sometime end of January 2009). And would go to Jaipur to meet some friends.

1) How do i get from Delhi airport to Jaipur? Should i stay a night in Delhi and leave for Jaipur the next day Bus or Train? How long and how much? Tickets availabilities - easy or difficult?

Then, they will be 5 of us from Jaipur to Agra.

2) Bus or Taxi or Private Car or Train? Best options?

Then, Agra to Calcutta.

3) Train, How long, how much and availabilities? Flight easier?

Then, attending a wedding in Siliguri (near Darjeeling). After the wedding i will be on my own. I want to go to Sikkim,

4) Informations on Sikkim.... any advises? How do get there? Where to stay? Suggestions of places to go. Would like to trek, stay in monastery and learn a bit about Buddhism.

Sikkim - Varanasi - Delhi and finish my trip.

5) How to get to Varanasi from Sikkim? Train - How long and How much? How to get to Delhi from Varanasi? How long and How much?

I would like to this whole trip in less than a month. Comfortable or am i rushing it?

Thanks in advance guys. Answers greatly appreciated. I'll buy you a drink if we get the chance to meet.

Eric

Hmmm if you come to mumbai , the chance of the drink is possible 😊

ok delhi - jaipur , its a great road, so take a bus or a car , you can get both online on

take the volvo ideally (carry a good book) , traveled through that , but agra to calcutta , quite a distance , take a flight or train

you trip looks kinda rushed up , enjoy whatever you do see.

happy journey and hope you enjoy the soul seeking and find your spiritual self

I would spend the night in Delhi. Getting around India is already exhausting without the jetlag to make it more.
If you are short of time or patience, then buy an eticket for the trains in advance on the following site. irctc.co.in
Otherwise you can buy a train ticket at the New Delhi train station. Make sure you go to the New Delhi train station to buy them. There are 2 train stations in Delhi. The New Delhi train stations has a special office for foreigners to buy tickets. Go into the train station and up the stairs to find it. Dont be sidetracked by touts on your way in telling you all kinds. They are lying and if you listen to anything they say it could cost you time and money. The train journey costs less than 30 Euros. How much less depends on whether you want to travel first or second class. The journery takes less than 6 hours if there are no delays. Allow plenty of time to buy the tickets at the train station because it is time consuming. Buy the other train tickets you will need at the same time to prevent having go through the buying process again.

I am not sure if you can take the bus. If so it takes longer than the train, so train travel may be a better option.

To get from the airport to your hotel or the train station in Delhi, either take the green bus which costs 50 Rupees to the train station. Or else book a prepaid taxi at the prepaid taxi booth at the airport.. Dont use a taxi that is not booked by this booth. They can be dodgy.

Be sure to take a sleeper train because the train journey can take 30 hours.

Travel in India can be unpredictable and exhausting so be sure to spend around 5 nights in each place you stop to allow a margain of error and to prevent getting too tired.
