I am planning on visiting South America next year and have been recommended to do a tour of the salt flats by a friend however she was booked on a tour of S America so her trip was included. On reading other peoples blogs I have seen a couple of people recommend Tupiza Tours(http://www.tupizatours.com/ing/index.php).
From what I read its hit and miss with the various companies but most people seem to say don't necessairly go with the cheapest as they can compromise on safety. Reply to this

With regards to cost, all the companies that operate out of Uyuni made an agreement they would all charge the same rate (in order to stop tours cutting out things or compromising on safety in order to offer the cheapest rates.) This was $100 for the full three day tour although some did drop the prices if you were travelling in a group. I'm not sure how well this agreement is currently holding up but that's what it was. Just a warning if you buy a tour in La Paz before you get to Uyuni - many claim everything is included but the two girls on my tour who did that found they had to pay separate national park entrance fees plus a local payment so ended up paying the full $100 anyway. Also there's no-one to complain to in Uyuni about a La Paz-bought tour! I went with San Juan tours - just randomly found them in Uyuni and no idea if they're on the internet but it was fine - no horror stories about lack of food or no sleeping space at the hostels once you arrive. Just make sure you take enough bottled water. Reply to this
