Cheap huts on the beach

Just looking for cheap huts on the beach - I have read that they won't be bookable on the internet - just want to know if there are these options...a budget bungalow right on the beach with all the basics included (bathroom, hot water...)

Hi there, I am new to the forum and enjoying it alot...all the threads kept me busy many a night! 😉 I found some great info and advice...so thank you everyone!

I do however want to ask if there are budget bungalows right ON THE BEACH, with all the basics (bathroom, hot water..etc.) preferably on Koh Samui and Koh Phi Phi. We were thinking of those two islands as we don't want to go touristy spots but still want to be able to do ALL the activities - canopy tours, skuba, snorkel, horse riding, kayaking...etc.?

We also want to visit Angkor Watt for the first 3 days, but budget is tight, so we were wondering if anyone has advice concerning getting there from Bangkok.

Oh, and lastely, will we be able to find clean budget places to stay on Khoasan Road without booking beforehand and is that close to the BIG CHEAP CHATACHUK (is it?), WEEKEND MARKET??

Thanks alot! Reply to this

Hello Marike 😊

Here is a thread which may interest you.

Beach Huts in Thailand.

Beach huts rarely/never have hot water. But that is not as uncomfortable as you may expect because the weather is so warm in Thailand.

On Koh Samui you could try Rasta Baby on Bo Phut beach. It is a quiet beach, away from the teaming with tourists part of the island.

Hey Mossel!

I can certainly try to help you with 2 of the 3 questions..simply because I have not visited Angkor Wat.

In respect to beach huts on Koh Samui, I can assure you there are plenty of beach hut resorts (very cheap) on offer on many of the beachs on the island, and booking is as easy as just turning up. I stayed on the Chawang beach to the east of the island in an AMAZINGGG beach hut, with a thatched roof. Its basic, with toilet/shower and fans, but don't rely on there being plentiful amounts of hot water.

The beach hut was as cheap as 100baht a night per person, and literally 50m away from the beach, an around 200m from a stretch of bars.

Secondly, with regard to Koh San Road...Wow what a place!! Bright lights...HHEEEAAPPPEEESS of back packers everywhere. Not really sure what the hostels are like down there, I checked out a couple when looking around and (especially) the cheap ones, looked dirty and possibly flea ridden beds!

Maybe look into getting a cheap hotel, thats what I did! They can be ridiculously cheap...hostel world is a good website! Hope it helps - Charlie Reply to this

All accomodation in Thailand is reasonably clean, even the cheapest place. You will certainly be able to find places to stay on the Khao San Road even if you dont prebook. Prices start at around 100 Bahts for a single room. Easier to find are ones for 200 Bahts.

As far as I remember Chatachuk market is not within comfortable walking distance of the Khao San Road. A taxi to it would cost around 150 Bahts. But there is also a market on the Khao San Road where you can probably get what you need at a good price.

There are cheap bamboo huts on Runtee Bay, on the east side of Koh Phi Phi Island. In the night you can listen to the sounds of the jungle while sleeping under the klamboe. There is no hot water in the huts, the toilet is basic, place is clean - and don't forget some insect spray ;-) Reply to this

to get to siem reap from bangkok, take a bus from the Northern bus station (mochit) in Bangkok to aranyaprathet, on the thai cambodia border, cross the border on foot, then hop into the back one of those little nissan trucks, pick the one that is the fullest( thy only leave when they have about 15 people shoved in the back) it is uncomfortable, but quite an experience, if i could do it again i wouldnt do it any other way.

Make sure you buy a dust mask beforehand!!! Reply to this

Thanks for the great advice everyone - I appreciate it! What do you think of the following itinerary:
1 day shopping Bangkok
3 days, Cambodia
4 days, Open water scuba course on Koh Tao or Nang Yuan or Koh Samui
5 days, Koh Phi Phi (are elephant riding, sea kayaking, horse riding, abseiling all possible here?)
2 days shopping Bangkok

I can't wait!! My tropical vacation dream is finaly becoming a reality!!! AAAHHH!! 😉 Reply to this

Hey Marike,
When you say budget, what price range do you mean? some people feel 1000 baht/night is budget. If you are okay w/ no hot water, as has have suggested already, there are several options for you to choose from. Its as easy as walking up and seeing who has vacancies and asking to see the room as most of these places do not book in advance.
Khao San has tons of cheap rooms for 100 to 1000 baht. Try and get there in the morning to get a better selection of rooms. Once again a place like D&D is budget to some at 1000 baht but too expensive for others. (We love it cause of the pool on the roof and we have found the rooms to be clean.) You will need to take a taxi to the market.
Nothing wrong with your itinerary if it works for you. I wouldn't shop on the first day so you don't have to haul souvenirs with you.
If you are going the budget route, how are you getting between each area? Do you have time constraints? Remember no flying for 24hrs after diving so allow for that when considering any dive plans.
