We are due to fly out at the start of December this year for a year travelling.
Our route is
Manchester

Laos (4)
Vientnam (4)
Cambodia (2)
Thialand (south) (3)
malaysia (1)
Indonesia (16)
Aus - Mel (4)
Inidia (12)
Manchester
The weeeks are only a rough estimate.
We went to Sta travel to book our flights yesterday and we have 2 choices
Qantus £1295
Manchester - Bangkok
Singapore - Melbourne
Melbourne - Mumbai
Mumbai - Manchester
OR
Emirates - £1275
Manchester - Bangkok (Via Dubai)
Singapore - Melbourne
Melbourne - Singapore
Mumbai - Manchetser (we will need to buy an internal from bang/sing to mumbai)
I just wondered given all of the above, which one is the best deal? OR will we get a better deal elsewhere OR would it be cheaper to taylor our own flights and get them as we go?
Thanks for any help, and taking time to read this!
Regards
PJ and Mich
Reply to this Hey PJ & Mich,
We booked a "one world" ticket with Qantas when we took our rtw trip, Belfast - London - Bangkok - Singapore - Bali - Perth - Sydney - Auckland - Santiago - (overland to Lima) - LAX - London, though our route was slightly different we paid about the same, this being said it was in May 07 & before all the issues with fuel prices etc. Both prices you have are roughly the same so it's more about which airline is better & times of your flights. Can't comment on Emirates though we've only heard good reports about them. Qantas were very good, we liked them better than BA, though there are plenty of people who think they are crap!
We booked with STA too and had no problems, infact they were excellent & we paid about 20 quid more than Trailfinders price as we liked STA more.
With regards to your internal travel in Asia, we used flights & buses - both very cheap, buses book locally (i.e., to get from Bangkok to Laos you can book with a TAT (travel agent) in Koh San Road in central Bangkok). Flights we got through Asia were mainly with Air asia - the easyjet equivalent for Asia, but much better!! book online, google and you will get the details. Again it all depends on where you want to go and how long you want to be "travelling" to that place for.
We would definitely say book a round the world ticket rather than booking single fare tickets yourself from each destination - you will more than likely pay more if you don't get one ticket for your 4 stops. I guess there is no harm in checking but I would be very surprised if you can get it cheaper.
Also, it's good to have an overall idea of how long you want to be in a certain place but try to be as flexible as possible, you will speak to people who give you ideas of places you should see & this can mean a detour! We ended up going to countries and even continents we didn't plan prior to leaving, that is the whole joy of travelling!
It's such an exciting time planning your trip & the anticipation, so enjoy! If you need any other advice let us know. Good Luck, M&S

Reply to this you have to select the tour first and plan yourself where you want to go and then finally comes to the tickets. It is advisable that you plan the tour without much cost of tickets since you want to enjoy the tour then plan for the other modes rather than plane for shorter distance.
