Can someone on this forum inform me where to book a hotel in Bangkok in a safe district (away from demonstration and safe for traveller) since the unrest last week in Bangkok city?

Looking forward to hear from you!

I think u'd better stick to the city center area like Silom, Siam or Sukhumvit. They are business areas where businesses are going on as usual and closed to transportation like Skytrain and subway. Protests are limited in the parliament, government house and Rajdamnoen road, on the way to the old town. The situation is calm now, nothing to worry about.

Hello Sacha :)

I heard that despite the demonstrations travellers seem to be comming to no harm appart from some of the airports being shut down for a while and flights delayed a few weeks ago.

Just spent 3 days in Silom last week during the beginning of the demonstrations and didn't even know they were happening until i saw it on CNN. The area's totally safe. If you're looking for a hostel, try the Lub D Bangkok, i've stayed a lot of places and it's probably the best hostel I've ever seen.

Just had a great 5 days there on our way home from further afield. Keep away from Parliament house area and no worries.
As someone said "with 7 million people in town the 2000 or so protestors are not a worry". Even quite a few locals knew nothing about the riots and protests. Most are more than happy to sell you something or relieve you of funds in some way or other.
Remember, it is quicker to walk to most places than try to take a bus or taxi.
The metro rail is good to use, goes to a few major places but does not cover a great distance.
The river ferries are good fun and cover a large distance up and down the waterway.

Are you guys kidding cutemia? Riots in Bangkok?

I'm living here, travel in different bits of the city, and head out nearly every night. Occasionally I happen upon a group of demonstrators, standing around listing to some guy with a megaphone, but riots? This ain't Gaza. The protests you see on CNN are the occasional violent flare ups at parliament house. The rest of the city is perfectly safe -- or as safe as its always been without demonstrations.

Head to Koh San Road or Silom or Sukhumvit for any hotel -- they're all safe, and getting cheaper because numbers are dropping.

Thanks! I found a nice and affordable hotel in Sukhumvit. Any floks travelling north to Chang Mai these days and looking for an european travelling dude to join in? Indeed the locals even don't know there was a demonstration, saw a very small part of it. Seems to be no big hasle here.

You could put a post in the Looking for Travel Companions Forum if you want. :)
