Have you been in Delhi in Wintertime?

We are going to be in Delhi in December and January. I hear it gets cold at night. Last time I was in India none of the beds in hotels had blankets. Will there be blankets in the cheaper hotels in Winter in Delhi or should be take sleeping bags with us?

What about hotels in smaller towns? Will they provide blankets?

Ive only been in india for a couple of days and am staying at a guest house in mumbai until january, they have blankets there 😊 but just for security i took my sleeping bag, have heard of loads of people to take it with me not only due to the lack of blankets, but also because of bed bugs and alike! Thanks Tim 😊 But I think Mumbai is always warm at night isnt it? Delhi gets cold. I heard temps drop to around 5 C degrees in Wintertime. Reply to this

Thanks Tim 😊

I am going to Hardiwar to see the Ganges, Agra to see the Taj Mahal and some time in Kurukshethra to see what life in the North of India away from the tourists is like. I was going to go to Khajuraho to see the temple with the erotic statues but I will have my 8 year old daughter with me so I think I will skip that. Of course the is more to see in and Around Delhi but we are only going to be there for 18 days and I dont like rushing around. Reply to this

Welcome to Delhi/India Mell.

Taj Mahal in agra is normally a one day trip. Either a taxi for the round trip which is costly or a comfortable train - Taj Express which takes you to Agra and after visiting Taj Mahal the train brings back passengers to Delhi by late evening.

Of course you have a lot to see in Delhi itself. Qutab Minar, Red Fort, Museums, Lodhi Gardens and park etc. Try the world class Metro too... Other nearby places are Shimla in Himachal Pradesh state and Mussurie in Uttaranchal state. Going to Mussurie - Take the Shadabdi train to Dehradoon and from there a taxi to Mussurie Hills. Five hours by Shadabdi to Dehradoon and from there taxi might take another two hours depending upon the weather while climbing hills and hairpinbends.

Not interested in Rajasthan? Or have you already visited Rajasthan? Jaipur is five hours by road.

About weather. From 25 Decembr to 15 Janury, Delhi really gets cold. Better you carry jackets and sleepping bags instead of using dirty blankets in hotels.

I could have helped you in Delhi but I will be away in Chennai (Madras) during december till 10 Jan 09. And I drive all the way from Delhi to Madras every year.

All the best.

Thank you Rajan 😊

I am interested in Rajasthan but I cant see everything in just 18 days. If I rush around too much I wont get to sit back and absorb the atmosphere of India. So, I will just pick and choose a few things to see and relax for the rest of the time. Anyway, it wont be my last visit to India so I will eventually see more.

Yeah, I think I will take your advise and bring our sleeping bags with us. And of course the warm clothes. It is going to feel weird being in India when it is cold. In my imagination it is always too warm rather than too cold there. :D
