Advice or recommendations needed on a good backpack!

Hi, I'm going on an 8 week tour to SE Asia in Jan 09 and have never travelled alone before so am a bit scared and need lots of advice!

I have been looking into luggage/backpacks and have been a bit disappointed by the lack of variety I have found. I am only about 5'2 and although I'm sure I can manage, I'm not the strongest so I don't want anything too bulky and it must be as easy as possible to carry, as I will probably be carting it around a fair bit.

I don't know much about it and really don't know what to look for in a good backpack - I've found this one which looks ok.
Any other ladies (or men!) got any recommendations or can reassure me that this one is decent?

My wife has carried the same Rick Steves backpack for years and loves it. The trick is to learn to travel light. For a 3 week trip, her backpack weights just 12 lbs. You can see pictures of her carrying it around in several of the posts in our blog. (see our profile). Where is Asia are you going?

Thanks for your reply! I'm flying to Vietnam and from there going to Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and finishing in Singapore 😊 Reply to this

Just keep it light and preferably able to go as carry-on when you fly.

I've had an MEI Voyager for years and rate it highly. Reply to this

Hello Sarah 😊

I would just travel light. It does not matter which backpack as long as it is small. All you really need is a couple of dresses and a couple of pairs of flip flops and a light sweater for SE Asia. Also a couple of things like sun screen and mosquito repellant. You should be able to get by with around 7 or 8 KG or stuff.

I snipped the link to the backpack from your post. If anyone wants to see it you can send it by private message. This is to discourage spammers from posting their links. Sorry to inconvenience you like this. 😊
