I'll be in Phuket in March and wish to get to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, can anyone tell me the best way to get there? I think there is fairly decent transport between Thailand and Malaysia but don't know the details.

many thanks Reply to this

There are many modes available which are convenient. Malaysian Airlines has daily Direct flights from Phuket to Kuala Lumpur (1hr 30mins). A Budget carrier Air Asia (from Malaysia) also connects Phuket to Kuala lumpur. If you have time(15 hours!) to see country side then Malaysian Railways (KTM Berhad) runs train service from Hat Yai (Thailand) to Kuala Lumpur. Hope this gives you some info for your travel plans. will be in the same area and can recommend this site for all train services: http://www.seat61.com/Thailand.htm

following info is there:

Phuket hasn't got a railway station, but there are buses from Surat Thani, Hat Yai and Sungai Kolok.

Bangkok to Phuket:
Take a train from Bangkok to Surat Thani - see the train times above. Then take a bus from Surat Thani to Phuket taking around 6 hours. There are about 14 buses a day between 05:00 and 15:30.

Returning, buses leaves Phuket for Surat Thani at 04:45, 05:30, 07:00, 07:30, 08:00, 08:20, 09:00, 09:40, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 12:20, 13:50, 15:30. Information on departure times from Surat Thani is not available, but times are likely to be similar. The bus fare is unlikely to be more than about 280 Baht (£4). Buses are run by the Thailand Transportation Co.

Singapore & Malaysia to Phuket:
Travel by train from Singapore or Malaysia to Hat Yai in Thailand - see the train times above. Then take a bus from Hat Yai to Phuket, taking about 6 hours. Buses leave Hat Yai at 05:45, 07:45, 08:45, 09:30, 10:05. Buses are run by Phuket Tour and Trang Tour, and the fare is in the region of 160 Baht (£2.50).

Returning, there are buses from Phuket to Hat Yai at 06:20, 07:40, 08:00, 09:00, 09:30, 10:20, 11:20.

Ko Phi Phi
A ferry links Phuket and Ko Phi Phi. The ferry sails from Phuket at 08:30 and 13:30, and from Ko Phi Phi at 09:00 and 14:00. Crossing time 90 minutes.

hope it helps cheers

I flew Air Asia...and they're terrible at being on time. NEVER again. But, if that's your only option, then, well....you gotta live with it. Reply to this
