I need information about the place in Kota Kinabalu where to board a bus/minibus/van going to Tambunan.

Hi. I need to get from Kota Kinabalu to the Gunung Emas Highland Resort using public transport on Sunday (August 3). I know I should use a bus/minibus/van going from Kota Kinabalu to Tambunan, Keningau, and Tenom but I am getting contradictory information about the place where to board this bus/minibus/van. Could anybody please clarify this issue to me – I will go there directly from the airport, so place on the south side of Kota Kinabalu would be an advantage. Thanks. Reply to this

Hi Vaclav,

From Kota Kinabalu International Airport/Terminal 2, board any mini buses/coaches baring the 'KK' signage (they do stop for passengers eventhough you don't wave them down) & get off at the state library stop. Walk across to the bus stand & you'll see few mini buses/coaches filling the seats by the loads - just make sure to board ones heading along penampang/tambunan road (not along kimanis road!). You should get there in 40mins to 1 hour the most at about rm8-rm10 per way if not mistaken. Rest assured it's relatively easy to travel around, as most locals do pickup the English language fairly well. Enjoy your trip!

Hi Charles,

Thank you very much indeed for your very detailed and comprehensible reply - it should be simple now for me.

In fact, I was not really afraid of not be able to find my way in the end - I would just hate to waste my time hopping around KK to fnd the right transport.

Have fun. Reply to this

Not a problem Vaclav. Many domestic and foreign tourists visiting Kota Kinabalu do find it relatively easy to travel around, thanks to the locals' initiative to pickup on the English language. Not only Kota Kinabalu has bucked-up in improving public transportation services, signage and other means of information are quite handy. The best thing is the locals are also helpful in providing information, as I've noticed lately when waiting for some friends at a fast food joint - domestic tourists were extended a helping hand in getting information.

Hope you'll have a great time in Kota Kinabalu.
