Hello Vicki 😊

You could find a travel mate by posting on the following forum.
Looking for travelling companions.

How long will you be travelling for anyway? If you are going for a year then maybe 3 months in SE Asia, 3 months in India and then work for 6 months in Australia might be a plan?

When you do decide where you are going it may be worth getting a few Lonely Planet guide books which cover the countries you are going to. There is a Lonely Planet book which covers all the SE Asia countries in one book. The books cost around 30 Euros each but worth it for the information they give, in my opinion.

You might go back, even if you took a year out. There comes a point when one wants to do more with ones life than travel.

With that amount of time I would hit India or else SE Asia for 3 months and then go to Australia for one.

When I first ventured out into the big wide world I was very surprised at the amount of people travelling alone… and since then I’ve done it myself and haven’t looked back.

My first time travelling was with my best friend… we still are best friends… and we didn’t fall out during the trip, but travelling alone is so much more rewarding in my opinion. It’s too easy when you’re with somebody to be a social recluse. The main advantage of travelling alone however is doing what the hell you want, when you want. You can be spontaneous whenever you like and you don’t have to worry about what your companion thinks. If you don’t like a place you can leave without trying to persuade them it’s a good idea.

Plus, it’s sooooo easy to meet people…

If you want to find a new friend to travel with then the best places to find these people are in the hostels! So my advice to you is fly to your first destination on your own and pick up travel mates on your way as and when you fancy.

Don’t tie yourself down to one person, especially if you don’t know them very well.
