Where should we go?

For upcoming trip to Thailand we are spending some time in Ko Samui. I am researching which beach to stay on. We were thinking of going to Mae Nam beach, and then at night take a taxi to Chaweng beach for all the nightlife. We just kind of wanted to distance ourselves from all the chaos. What do you guys think? Or, should we stay on Chaweng beach? opinions please! Thanks Reply to this

Hi There!

You are going to love Koh Samui. My husband and I stayed there for a week following a stressful time in South Korea. All we wanted was to find a nice place to decompress. So when we got off the airplane we asked the Taxi driver to take us to a 'quiet' beach. He took us to MaeNam Beach and New Lapaz Villa.

We were there in May 2004 and thought it was great! It was right next door to a super ritzy resort with crazy priced food. New Lapaz seemed very reasonable, was family owned, had great food, and was very peaceful. We will definitly be back again.

You know what, Ko Samui was ok but the locals really annoyed me. This was because it is an island that supports tourism so the only locals you actually meet are trying to depart with your foreign cash.

Chaweng beach is the main beach in Thailand. That is wear you will pay the most but is still pretty reasonable. I stayed at two locations.

1) The Ko Samui Yahct Club; not a Yahct club at all but a series of Bungalows situated about five minutes out of town. Not bad if u want some peice and quite. Price is reasonable, breakfast rocks.

2)Samui Paradise Resort; as the name suggests this place is the shit. 5 stars, pool side massage, diving etc. I think u should give yourself a few nights here at least.. hehe.. go on pamper yourself.

But, one place I saw where I really wanted to go back to was the Fishermans Village situated on the other side of the ISland. It is really peaceful and away from the tourist areas.

Anyway, have fun.

Cheers

Gotta say, I wasn't that keen on Koh Samui coz of all the tourists and that, don't stay on Chaweng BEach whatever you do though coz it's WELL expensive! If you like your clubbing there's a place there called Mint Bar and that place is ace, they had Goldie playing there when I went. Oh yeah, go and see Grandfather and Grandmother rock and all, they're quality. ;o) Reply to this
