A question about timeshares

More specifically, what to do when you need to get out of one.

I loved it but it’s just too tough right now. I’m really gonna miss going to our timeshare cottage, but it’s gotta be done. I asked a friend about it but he gave me a gloom-and-doom about how impossible it’s gonna be to send my contract on its way. Is it really that bad?

What kinds of options are there (sorry, I haven’t been able to do a lot of research, my nostalgia makes me lethargic :P )? Am I still going to end up with maintenance fees and all the crap that made me want to sell in the first place? One of the firms I was contacted by suggested a title transfer, and they didn’t even want detailed info on my timeshare, just saying that “hey, we’ll take it no questions asked.” What’s up with that?

Your friend has a rather pessimistic outlook. But he has a point. Not a lot of people want to take on new financial burdens, and like it or not, that’s what a timeshare is (positive benefits notwithstanding), so the market for buyers might look bare.

There's a forum called timeshare consumer group here with some info. From the info I could glean it seems to say “keep your eyes open for these telltale signs, and you’ll end up OK” for those considering a title transfer for their timeshare. Reply to this

It is quite a difficult task getting out of timeshare contract, yet not impossible. I think the best options would be to donate or cancel the contract. I recommend you to read this article with more information about this two options and others:
