The earth moved for us last night - only an aftershock from the recent earthquake but it was strange and (Jo thought slighly scary) to feel the ground rumbling when you are lying on it! Got up early and packed up the tents (Jo does not like camping!!). We were then shown by Dave how to pack it up properly. We probably only got a four out of ten but at least it all fitted into its sack and if necessary, we can avoid that particular tent next time (which Jo is pleased to say wont be for some time). Drove for a 10 kms to the pre Inca Cemetary which was really interested. We had an English speaking guide who explained the history of the Nazca people (who are long gone) and showed us the ... read more

The tour also includes a visit to an artisan’s workshop, where modern masters create Nazca style pottery. Later in the day I catch the night bus to Arequipa. ... read more

The cemetary itself is vast - there are over 900 known grave sites. Unfortunately, many of these have been set upon by huaceros - graverobbers. The cool side effects of these robberies (which are apparently still happening today) is that the robbers leave the bodies, so not only are there real skeletons in the open graves, there are also bone fragments absolutely littering the ground. I almost took one, but I felt creepy. There are about 10 graves opened and covered (from the rain! hah!) that ... read more

Hello Blighty! TODAY I HAVE TOUCHED THE YELLOW TEETH OF A DUDE 1000 YEARS OLD. FOR REAL! But first. Greetings from a Jen, who hasnt had a hot shower in 2 weeks. We checked into a hostel last nast which advertised 24 HOUR HOT WATER, with glee. Rich ran the shower for a minute and proclaimed it was indeed hot. Imagine what a buzz I got from this news. Not as much as a buzz as I got from the metal tap as I went to get in and got a darn electric shock! Nooo! Denied! All I want is a hot shower.... Anyway, we are currently in the desert. You can quite literally drive for hours and not see anything green. You wouldn´t want to get stuck here on your own. Well, where we are ... read more
