So after a well deserved rest myself and Anne aalong with the two other couples all decided to head to Arequipa to make our way to Canyone de Colca which is in fact the second deepest canyon in the world and not the deepest which happens to be only down the road but doesnt seem to be accesible.
We had a night bus to Arequipa and arrived at 4.30am where we waited for a connecting bus to a small town called Chivay a couple of hours away which is located 3600meters p in the mountains. We arrived around9am and found anice little hostel on the outskirts of the town.
Once showered we had a look around the city and we all went for a nice bath in the hot springs. There is even an Irish Bar in Chivay so after dinner we headed there for a pint before bed.
The next day is when we planned to head down the canyon so we jumped on a smelly bus for 3hours to a town called Cabanaconde, found a hostel to put in the bags for the night as we would be camping for the night. The thing we didnt realise was that
the trek itseld was actually quite difficult. We started at over 3000meters at the top of the canyon and had to trek all the way down to 2000meters. This took three hours to get to the bottom and the heat was nearly unbearable! On the plus side around 30minutes down I was looking around the canyon a spotted a massive Condor which which glided right bus us, he must of been close to three meters in width!!!
Once down at the bottom we met a nice local lady who offered us a cheap lunch. SHe brought us to her home in a tony town called San Juan Du Chuchu. The place was so nice that we decided to camp there and chill out for the rest of the day. We were all feeling quite good and thought we muight complete the whole trek in two days which meant having to trek for the entire next day but we didnt mind. Unfortunately Sam and FIona didnt feel that they were up to it so they parted the next morning back up the way we came. The rest of of powered on for 3hours the following morning towards the Oasis down the
bottom of the Canyon. This place is absolutely beautiful especially as the heat was so strong. It holds around 5 swiiming pools so we found one all to ourselves and chilled out for a while. Once refreshed we had to make our way back up the Canyon. As it was so difficult to come down we thought it would be difficult to get back up and although it was very steep it was quite easy and we made it back up 1100 meters in 2hours 40 minutes and I managed to jog the last leg of it!
Once up we made our way back to the hostel where met met back up with Sam and Fiona. We all had a few beers and dinner before falling asleep.
The following morning we jumped on the 9am bus for Arequipa and found a hostel near the bus station. We ventured into the city which turned out to be beautiful. The city is surround by El Misty WHich is a huge volcano overlooking the city and also by numerous other snow peaked mountains.UNfortunately to make it to La Paz for Xmas we had to rush through the city and get a bus to
Copacabana on Lake Titikaca which is where we are now.
