At Calvary Chapel Cuenca, the Ecuadorians serve almuerzo (lunch) between the English and Ecuadorian Services on Sunday. The almuerzo usually consists of rice, pollo (chicken) or carne (beef), fried plantain, and a drink (juice or yogurt with fruit). About five months ago, we asked the pastor if the Gringos (which is not a derogatory words down here, it just describes someone who is not Ecuadorian) could serve our Ecuadorian brothers and sister in Christ a traditional American meal. He agreed so in November we served meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy and a green salad. The Ecuadorians had no idea what meatloaf was, but they loved it.
