Hey ya´ll! I am officially living in Viña. Unfortunately I don´t think pictures are going to be possible after all, because the computers here are painfully slow and old, but I´ll try and get at least a couple up at some point. San Pedro was incredible. The people were awesome, and every tour we did was awesome. We went to the salt flats which were very cool, though apparently the 3rd biggest of the world, the 2nd biggest being in the states. They were multicolored however which was pretty amazing. It was freaking cold though. We went up to 4800 meters and arrived around 7am. We spent the entire day driving and walking around the flats and mountains. I think my favorite part of that one though was actually the froze lake. It freezes in a ... read more

So, my host parents belong to a Folkloric dance group that practices at our house quite often. This has given Jeremy and I a LOT of chances to practice our Cueca and to watch people who really know what they are doing. On a recent rehearsal I was asked to teach the group some other dances, like salsa, meregue and bachata. (On a side note, I NEVER thought I would move to Latin America and have soooo many people ask me to teach them Latin dance. Go figure!!) The night was fun although many people didn't show up because, well, it was raining. The following day we went to the market in Vina del Mar. So fun! Had some of the best ceviche I have ever had from a plastic cup and ate fried fish and ... read more

Reñaca is the town to the north of Valparaiso about 5 miles. There are sand dunes that rise over a thousand feet out of the sea. As we can see them in the distance from our apartment window, we decided it was time to check them out. So we took a short bus ride up the coast and set out onto the sand. It was so windy that the sand was flying everywhere. This made it hard to see the amazing view of the ocean from atop the massive dune. This weekend there was also an international sailing Regatta of old fashioned galleons passing through town. The ships were from all over the world and hung massive flags trailing in the wind behind them. The coastline was absolutely packed with spectators. When the Chilean ship passed ... read more

We took our first trip to Vina del Mar and Valparaiso today. We will definitely be returning often! I love the house I live in and my school but I will always be a city girl and being there made me want to move. We started to the day at our parent's home where their son lives now with his wife and Martin, who is 1 yr 8 months. So cute! Then we went about the processof trying to obtain our Chilean identification cards. After visiting 2 police stations to acquire the paperwork we arrived at the indentification place and found 100 people in line ahead of us. So, in es lo que hay po fashion, we left and decided to finish the process another day. It was too beautiful outside and we were too hungry ... read more

The last Chapter. After a couple of days in La Rioja, checking out the restaurants and the pretty girls, we saddled up and headed south to the Valle Fertil, checking out the Parque Ishigualasto (Valley de La Luna) on the way. The run down to Uspallata, via Termas de Villavicencio, was as spectacular as ever, with stunning views as we climbed up the mountain, but we had to fight with Patagonia type winds most of the way to Las Heras. Leaving Uspillata at 8.30am, we made for our last border crossing, back into Chile, via the Paso Cristo Redentor, with stunning views of Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Andes. This was the coldest ride of the adventure, dropping to - 1 deg. Team Kawasaki and one Kit, on his BMW, took the old high way ... read more

Hi, what a day this turned out to be. We left the Ankara at 8.00am and headed off to San Antonio to get the motos. When we got there we were told that the container was damaged, so we can't get the motos out until an assessor has been, well Rosco was NOT happy ! If we opened the container, then we became liable for it to the shipping company Dah! Anyway about then the whole ground began moving, trucks rocking about, power poles flexing and a six foot concrete wall, thought it was a snake, when it had subsided, we went to caravan thing to get a coffee while we were waiting for a call from Ronny, our shipping agent, and just then we had another good terramoto shaking. Now the problems began, as a ... read more

We arrived at Santiago Airport, 45 minutes early, after leaving Auckland half an hour late, but we now had to sit in the plane, while the ground staff unloaded all our luggage and spread it on the tarmac, where we were able to wander around and pick up our luggage, some lucky sods even got themselves a trolley. We the proceeded to a couple of huge marquees, where we were able to process immigration, which was done very efficiently, under the circumstances. It was great to meet up with Gerardo and his son Kevin, they had just picked up our brand NEW ford pickup truck, I love it when a plan comes together. Vince and Jane had flown on our same flight, but at this stage we wished them well with their couple of days in ... read more
