Now with the three little Citroen 2CV's neatly packed into a forty foot container, and one BMW moto that we are shipping for Lucas, all we have to do now is wait until it arrives in Valparaiso, Chile at the end of February. I am so glad the cars have gone, as now I can get on with other things around here that have been left behind while mucking around with the cars, as you do! Darbi Accessories have again been very good to us and have supplied all the Spectro oil that we will need over our 10,000 km expedition. Along with new oil filters and NGK Spark plugs, thanks again Terry, Steve and String for your support. Turtle Wax have also come to the party with lots of samples of their new Ice Synthetic ... read more

Well, Gerardo and I decided to have a break from our Moto High Andes Adventure next year, as he is in need of a 'Holiday' with his wife, Marisol and with his new job, time and commitment began to rule. I thought it would be a good idea also, as I have been missing out on a few local adventure rides during the time that we are away in South America. One idle day, after driving our little Citroen 2CV around a few back roads up hear in the North, this crazy idea came to me..."Why don't we take some of these little cars to South America?"....... So after sending a letter inviting expressions of interest, to the New Zealand Citroen Car Club, we now have three cars and six adventurous people committed to the adventure, ... read more

So the adventure ends for some………. But may be the beginning for others…… Leaving La Rioja, we headed down to check out Parque Ischigualasto and the Dinosaur Museum, some people really enjoyed it, others, thought it was just another pile of rocks….. Leaving San Augustin, bright and early, well some of us did, but Alan, discovered a flat tyre as he was about to leave the car park, but he had his pit crew with him and was soon back on the road. I caught up with Robin, Diane, Wim and Paul as the lunch stop, as Paul and I were texting each other about Wim’s back pack that he had left at a coffee stop during the morning ride. I waited here for an hour to see if String and the others were going to ... read more

Arequipa to La Rioja..... We were all set to go after a day off in Arequipa for some more shopping and a bit of moto and body maintenance, when Wim hit his starter button on his BMW 800 GS, nothing happened ??. It seemed that the battery was dead as a dodo, so out came the jumper leads, but still nothing happened. After a bit of searching around, we found that the lead to his GPS was in meltdown mode, so out with a pair of pliers to solve that problem, next we disconnected then reconnected the battery to reset the computer, as it had shut down everything during the GPS melt down, so a press of the starter and all systems were go… We needed a reasonably early start, as this is a big day ... read more

Cusco and Machu Picchu After we had washed the bad taste from our mouths over the Border transactions, we all settled down to enjoy Cusco and the surrounding Sacred Valley area. As soon as we arrived, Jan was whisked off to hike the Inca Trail for 4 days, to join us again the night before our departure. By all accounts she had a fantastic time and saw things that you can only access on foot. She celebrated her birthday while on the hike, wow, what a birthday treat that was for her, ending with an emotional teary eyed view from the Sun Gate over Machu Picchu. In the mean time the rest of us parked our motos up for a few days and boarded a mini bus that took us into every nook and cranny of ... read more

Dust, Snow, Sleet and Slush in one day We left Cusco in absolutely beautiful mountain weather, retracing the road back down to Sicuani, where we refueled and headed off into the mountains and a 4885 meter pass on our way to Chivay, and the Colca Canyon. This road, traditionally has had it’s challenges and today was going to prove to be no exception. As we headed up towards Yauri, with great views looking down on Lago Descanso, which is higher than Lake Titicaca. This section of dusty road is under major reconstruction, so we had many delays waiting for huge machinery and trucks that were moving tons of rocks around. As we gained altitude, we found ourselves above the low cloud and the temperatures began to drop accordingly. Reaching the mining town of Tintaya and negotiating ... read more

Diane and I left La Paz, with Robin Hans and Baz ripping out the clutch from a brand new BMW F800 GS on the showroom floor of the local BMW Dealership, after Robin and Cory fabricated a successfulness plan to transfer the clutch from that one into Robin's moto. The 3 Stooges, String, Paul and Wim, set off from the hotel, with the intention of the 3 Musketeers catching up with us along the way. After crossing Lake Titicaca on the rumpty ferry we got to the Bolivian Border and there were NO MOTO'S there!! Where had they got to??. They could not have gone through, as I had Strings papers in the truck with me. It turned out that they had gone into Cocacabana for lunch. After about 20 minutes they rocked up to the ... read more

Road of death Nearly beat us..... On our spare day in La Paz, we ride out to Coroico, this time we had Cory (the NZ guy that lives in Bolivia) with us. During our spare time he was busy with Robin, trying to organize the purchase of another BMW 800 GS from the local BMW dealer, so they could rip the clutch out of it and get on the road again. We all left the hotel, about 11.00am, as Robin, Baz , Wim, Paul and Cory had gone down to the BMW dealer with a show of BMW Loyalty. Now with Diane on the back of Paul’s moto, and Cory, Robin and me in the now shockless truck, and made our way out of the maze, that La Paz is. The paved road, and the scenic ... read more

Salta to La Paz The next morning, Robin and Baz took Robins moto to a workshop to try and sort out his clutch, that was now completely useless. Well it didn’t take long to see that it was completely shot. So onto the back of the truck it went, with Robin and Diane riding shotgun with me. Unfortunately, Bill flew home that morning as his mother fell ill, we wish her well for her recovery. We left Salta on a fine day, after having arrived late in the day in the rain and mist and headed onto San Antonio de Los Cobres to our first night at over 4000 meters. We had an unscheduled regroup just out of town, as Alan’s KTM was overheating somewhat and Team Leader of the day never took the riders to ... read more

Finally the road from Andalgala to Santa Maria has beaten Rosco's Rocky Road Adventurers. We left Andalgala, heading up to Minas Capallitas at 3100m up above the clouds. The road going up was under repair from the recent rains, so it was in good condition, but we could see the damage that had been caused. Once we reached the Hotel and had some coffee, we put on our hard hats and headed for the mine. It was a long steady climb up to the shaft opening, but with many stops to catch our breath, and admire the view and the wild herbs and flowers along the way. We passed an ancient cemetery and old mining camp ruins along the way. On reaching the mine itself, we were led into the darkness, only lighting our way with ... read more
