DJ. Was will man mehr.

Hello Peeps, We have been in Sao Paulo just under a week now (arriving a little tired after our mammoth 29 hour flight - which wasn´t so bad due to the amazingly luxurious Emirates plane that we flew in for the last 14 hours). Brazil has been a challenge as hardly anyone speaks English and our Portuguese is terrible at best. But we have got by with a mixture of pointing and trying every concievable way of pronouncing words! The Brazillian versions of a greasy spoon does a better steak for under a fiver than most posh restuarants in London, so we have been gorging ourselves on a daily basis. We had been here a few days before a local, that befriended us, told us that Sao Paulo has 23 million residents! The city is absolutely ... read more

Rio has been under a cloud of haze & rain the entire time so far, so no adventures to the beach :( It just means i am going to have to come back here one day! We are staying in Copa, Copacabana, which is not the safest of areas. Went to a shopping mall over in the next suburb. Now, Brasilian retail assistants have this interesting customer service approach where they superglue themselves to you the moment you enter the store and shadow you the entire time, trying desperately to sell you whatever they catch you looking at. Drives you batty. Went for dinner in Ipanema, which is far nicer and a lot more plush than Copacabana. The residents are all stylish, attractive, and rich. We liked the area so much we went back the next ... read more

M: Our last evening in Parati took a surprise turn when we stumbled across some incredible Capoeira players on our way to get dinner. Capoeira is one of my favourite ever things - so graceful, beautiful, respectful and bloody impressive physically. I have long harboured dreams of getting my arse in gear to learn, but having seen their phenomenal strength and acrobatics that evening: shattered dreams. Last morning in Parati was somewhat marred by plans to cycle in the jungle prior to evening bus to Sao Paulo going down the drain. Decided to be "organised" and visit the bus station to get tickets in advance - all sold until next day. Ensued frantic conversations in Portuguese/Spanish/French/English/Boninfantoddian with tourist office, various bus companies, travel agents etc, to work out how to reach our Paulista (SP bods) homestay ... read more

Sao Paulo - Brazil´s answer to America´s NYC....supposedlyOur run of good luck seemed to have expired when we were allocated the squashiest seats on the plane journey back to Brazil from Dublin. But even as we were hobbling our way back to Sao Paulo city, we were still excited at the prospect of being back in a town where the weather is warm, food and alcohol abundant, and the locals as rude as hell! We even had an unexpected medical excursion to excommunicate an unwelcome 'passenger´that paul had picked up from paraty to boot.....City highlights: A visit to the mercado municipal where they sell everything from gigantic fruit, well hung meat, olive oils, cheese, and pasteos to chocolate covered strawberries and fresh juices. needless to say, we were in piggy heaven; walking around liberdade to discover ... read more

Ah Sao Paulo....what can I say about Sao Paulo? Well...the bus station comes complete with all the desired modcons (toilets, more than one shop, choice of restaurants etc), the subway is uber efficient and the restaurants and bars pricey. The three amigos spent one night there, the main purpose to split up the journey between Iguazu and Rio. Job acomplished. Most of the time was spent, if you couldn´t tell, at the bus station or on the subway. We saw the cathedral and chilled in a nice looking park for a few hours but other than that...not much to report.... read more

Tonight we boarded our overnight bus to Iguaçu Falls. Jody was worried about how Mike would handle his first long distance bus ride, but we were able to book tickets on a sleeper bus that was comparable to seats in first class of an international flight. The seats were comfortable and we were able to sleep peacefully through the night until our arrival in Iguaçu in the morning. After reading the entry to Mike, he decided we needed to mention Jody's adverse reaction to Sleepy Time pills. So here goes...Jody thought Mike was going to be the one to have problems on the bus, but it was actually the experienced long distance bus rider, Jody, that found herself in a predicament. She took 2 Sleepy Time pills to help her sleep through the night, but for ... read more

No kaytiin me 2 viikon lomalla Uriguayissa ja Argentiinassa, kun viisumin uusiminen sita vaati, no nyt voin elella taalla ihan laillisesti marraskuun puoleen valiin asti.

So here we are back home.... We can't believe it's all over, we had mixed emotions about coming home, but we were looking forward to seeing friends and family so much that we had to bring it to an end..... oh, and we'd run out of money too! So on the 2nd August we landed in Sao Paulo over 24 hours after leaving Puerto Colombia in Venezuela. We were met at the aiport by Marina and Luis who had been on our boat in the Whitsundays in Oz, and we were lucky enough to stay with Marina and her husband Udu for the next 3 nights. While they went to work, we dozed, and then later the 5 of us went for a stroll down the expensive Avenida Paulista. We then went to our first Brazilian ... read more

The sun came out for us in Sao Paulo, but we were only here for a night in transit. The only thing to say about this city is it is MASSIVE!!!!! For as far as the eye can se on the plane, the city pushes on, full of clusters of large buildings. With 11 million people, it's one of the biggest cities in the world. Went straight to the pool at the hotel to try and get a bit of colour in to our pasty bodies before we headed out to check out the shops. Unfortunately we heard and the saw the afters of a guy who got hit by a car. Unsure whether it was the fault of a lunatic driver or a lunatic pedestrian, could have been either. We went to Bar Favela (funny ... read more
