Leaving Joinville

Yesterday we left Joinville for Sao Paulo. I will then be working in SP for the remaining of my internship.


A few words about the place I have been working in over the last few months.


Joinville is a peaceful small city of about 500.000 inhabitants. It is in the southern part of Brazil where people are mainly of European decendant. In order to establish the control over this part of the country, people from Europe were invited to come here and settle down where they would get free land to farm, and the first wave of immigrants came to Joinville about 150 years ago from Germany. This is quite a qontrast to how the north got settled with large plantations run by slave-owners, this is today the richest area in the country and it´s quite western, I think you could find much more "exotic" places in Eastern-Europe.


It was a very strange feeling to be leaving, I will miss Joinville a lot 😞


I work for Danica, "www.danicacorporation.com", which is a manufacturer of all kinds of thermoinsulation products, and I am in the clean room division. The company has six manufacturing sites, four in Brazil one in Mexico and one in Chile, and a lot of sales offices and warehouses all over Latin America plus a warehouse and headquarters in Denmark. When my contract here is finished I will go back to Denmark where I will write my final thieses for Danica in Europe, from September to January.

Í gær fórum við frá Joinville til Sao Paulo. Ég mun svo vinna í Sao Paulo það sem eftir er af samningnum. Nokkur orð um staðinn sem ég er búinn að vera að vinna seinustu mánuði. Joinville er vingjarnleg lítil borg með u.þ.b. 500.000 íbúum. Borgin er staðsett í Suðurhluta Brasilíu þar sem fólk er aðallega af Evrópskum uppruna. Til að tryggja yfirráð sín yfir þessum hluta landsins var fólki frá Evrópu boðið að koma hingað og setjast að þar sem þau gátu fengið ókeypis land til að yrkja, og fyrstu innflytjendurnir komu til Joinville fyrir u.þ.b. 150 árum frá Þýskalandi. Þetta er mikil andstæða við norðrið sem byggðist upp með stórum plantekrum þrælaeiganda. Þetta er í dag ríkasta svæði landsins og er mjög vestrænn, ég held þið gðtuð fundið mun "exótískari" staði í Austur-Evrópu.


Það var mjög skrýtin tilfinning að vera að fara þaðan, og ég mun sakna Joinville mikið 😞


Ég vinn fyrir Danica, "www.danicacorporation.com", sem framleiðir alls kyns einangrunarpanela, og ég vinn í "clean room" deildinni (hreinherbergja?). Fyrirtækið á sex verksmiðjur, fjórar í Brasilíu, eina í Mexikó og eina í Chile, auk fjölda söluskrifstofa og lagera útum alla latnesku Ameríku, einnig vöruhús og höfuðstöðvar í Danmörku. Þegar samningurinn minn hérna er búinn mun ég fara til baka til Danmerkur þar sem ég mun skrifa lokaverkefnið mitt fyrir Danica í Evrópu, frá september til janúar.
