Santa Theresa
amusing grafitti - Brazil v Germany taunting Wow what a party place...so much going on all over the place and most of it in the streets - brilliant cheap fun!! we finally found a bloco on sunday... a gathering of people in the street, dancing and singing with drums banging and stereos blasting the chosen samba tune...this one was Que marde e essa? - What shit is this? Ha - was a political one aimed at Bush and Blair! went with Sal and Matt and met some random Brazilian girls and a brazilian in white speedos - they are everywhere we realised after that - not a pretty sight!!
we went to carnival that night with the girls from the hostel - Keely and Lauren and two swede guys - good crowd. the carnival was awesome...but a little tiring especially after dancing for teh afternoon in the street with the bloco!! we got there at 9pm and retired at about 5am...we managed to sink a fair few beers at the event.... the procession was amazing - 6 samba schools parade for an hour each - its soooooooo impressive - massive costumes and massive glamerous floats with different themes...the first one was a huge roaring lion, another was
Sugarloaf
one of the views from the top sport - with chess pieces, another was wheres wally? so many - but got the pics to illustrate some! it was fantastic and teh crowds were brilliant! teh streets were a little dodge as the surrounding area is really poorly housed but not half as dangerous as i thought!!
Saturday was a bit mad - we went to the Alternative music festival, which was just a mass of people walking the streets n boogying to random music, drinking and basically eating each others faces!! we were a bit sought after being the only gringos there!!white and pink must do it for them!!!we managed to escape via some pee stained streets and hop on teh metro, then spent the afternoon drinking beers with some portuguese guys who were really drunk but so funny!!! we had to bail to shower and get away from the masses of beer they kept buying us!! we spent the evening trying to find a bloco but gave up as too knackered to walk anymore, but was fine since we found one on saturday!!
we have done the beach thing which was madly hot and required great stamina as the sweat trickles down your body
Christ The Redeemer
looks a lil decapitated....oops - but teh mist looked really cool n quite eerie - you know me - i didnt last so long!!
what else have we done? so much, its all a blur...have managed to go for three runs and a work out sessin on the beach last night with matt n sal - well funny - me n sal attempting to do pull ups ha ha!!
we have done all the touristy things and the most amusing bit was finding escalators at the top of Christ The RedeemerĀ“- kinda ruined the whole thing but amused me and then there wasnt really a view cos of the mist but well worth seeing! Sugar Loaf was awesome with teh views and cable car experience. We went up santa Theresa which was awesome on a tram - such a pretty quaint little place - really hot which made the beer at the top more enjoyable!!
nearing the end of our stay now and ready for some tranquility out in the country...Rio has been awesome and will probs have a nother night of partying and then head fora footy match in the famous marcadena stadium before heading off towards Iguaza Falls!!!
