Happy fourth to one and all!!
The weather was more than perfect today - although as I say that it is just started bucketing down with rain!
It´s 8:30pm at the end of an impossibly gorgeous day. I got up early having missed last night´s party. Interestingly, the party began at midnight and went on till 5:00am. Go figure. What people do is take an early evening nap then get up at 11:30pm and go out. My alarm went off, but I just ignored it and slept the night.
I was surprisingly efficient this morning, doing my laundry (by hand), going to the airport where the only functioning cash machine exists (I almost had heart failure when I discovered last night that I am currently spending at 4 times my already generous budget!), then got back via one of the two supermarkets on the island for coffee and conversation before the party goers even got up. (I told Gabi to wake me in time for the next party!)
I settled part of my bill then Sandy and I went to a truly incredible beach via a thirty minute muddy but pleasant walk to the Baia de Golfinas, where hundreds of
dolphins cavort in the mornings. Beautiful spot on top of a cliff - people are not allowed to go into the bay to protect the dolphins. We didn´t see any dolphins, and my picture does no justice at all to the actual view, but you´ll get a taste. From there we walked across the cliff top for a while then down the cliff face via a metal ladder to the most jaw-dropping beach yet. Of course, the fabulous sunshine and the waters teeming with magnificent, brilliantly colored fish, coral, volcanic spurs plunging down thirty or so feet, sea turtles, excellent visibility, absolutely delightful and exotic birds flying overhead all day in pairs performing acrobatic routines, the beach practically deserted. I mean it was perfect. Sandy was great company. We snorkelled two or three times, the first two about an hour long. Fantastic.
Later, Anna and Jose turned up and we made our way back overland over the precipitous black lava cliffs to Baia de Porcos, then across Praia de Bode as the sun was setting in a devastatingly beautiful way, to a cliff top bar in the back of the ´´buggy´´ Anna and Jose had rented for a post sunset
drink.
The perfect end to the perfect July 4th.
There is an all you can eat Pizza place with music for later, so we´ll be going out soon. Sandy, Anna and Jose all leave tomorrow, more´s the pity.
Oh well. Great while it lasted.
I hope everyone had a brilliant day from wherever you are reading this.
See you on the flypaper.

(Reyna and Callie: I got your messages. Reyna: sorry about the American Idol girl. Who said life had to be fair?
Callie: I´m not in the Amazon yet! You can write to me through this blog, if you like. I can only answer, either here, or to a private email. The website is dead until September, unfortunately!

Happy 4th!
Happy to hear you had a great 4th. Sounds like you had the most perfect day in every way possible.... Quiet here - cloudy and a lot cooler, rain early then clearing but not a glorious day for those hoping to spend time at a beach. We had a busy, but low key day and will just hang out this evening - probably watch a movie or two. No parties, I'm afraid! Looking forward to hearing more and to see more of the amazing pictures. Stay safe, healthy and as always, have fun! xo, Suze and Gia
