Salt Lake Tour
Me trying to balance on a mountain of salt This has to be Bolivia’s most extraordinary attractions; at 9000 square kilometres the Salar de Uyoni is by far the biggest salt lake in the world. When you are there you can see snow capped mountains in the distance and you really believe that you are in another world
I saw the salt lake by a 3 day jeep tour. As with most things how much you enjoy the tour is very dependant on who you are with, thankfully I had a good group. You will tell by the action photo’s that I spent most of my time with a couple of boys!
Within an hour we had a puncture on the salt lake, only a week before 4 people had died from having a blow out while driving on the lake; they toppled over (locals not gringos). So once again I have put my life in these crazy Bolivians hands, the speedometer didn’t work, they must detach the wires to stop the odometer increasing! Also, our driver fancied himself as Nigel Mansell.
Day 1 consisted of;
Salt Lake
Hotel de Sal - A hotel made out of salt!
Salt Museum - Statues made out of salt
Fish Island - A big island with Cactus all over it
